I don't know why, but my legs are really weak.  I am new to working out and the advice of some experienced people is to do legs.

I never realized it but my legs are very very weak.  The part that gets me is the leg muscle is a very big muscle yet I have no strength.  I can do 4 sets of bench at 185, but I felt smoked after doing 4 sets of 110lbs on the leg press.

Can I do legs more than once a week?

I have never been a great runner and I am guessing my legs have a lot to do with that.

could it just be that you are juast getting used to working your legs? Back in the day when I started working out I was only able to do 145 for squats. With in a month had added about 400 to my squats up to 545, it just takes some getting used to. Your legs are used to holdhing you up and walking but not pressing type activities like workling out.

You can do legs several times a week if you vary the intensity. I suggest squatting or deadlifting twice a week. Be prepared for soreness for the first couple of weeks from squatting. Jogging has little to do with leg strength. Sprinting has a lot to do with leg (hamstrings) and glute strength.  If you can't squat (physiological issues, lack of a spotter or no rack to do them in), a leg press is OK.  I knew a champion bodybuilder with huge legs who never squatted, only leg pressed. However, if you can physically squat, you should.

If you want strong legs, you will need to do heavy squats and deadlifts.  3 sets of 5 on the squats; 1 set of 5 on the deadlift.

Squat 3 times a week, deadlift 3 times every two weeks.  Add weight everytime

Also, I suggest you get "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe.

This is a great book. Once you read it you will realize that much more than just your legs are weak.

Stay away from the leg press. Learn how to squat properly, and to full depth. That one exercise alone could change your life!

Probably much less to do with your leg strength than a lack of running.
