I am REALLY enjoying this...please post what you all have as far as gear and won't you don't leave home with. Interested in footware and any backpack/ hydration systems you all carry. I have been running with a 2 qt camel back with 3 bricks in there, some New Balance go fasters, my MP 3 and cell phone.
Most I have done so far is 5.5 miles in a single shot, I would call them slopes here and not hills. I have been pumping the iron in the morning then running at night when I can. |

I really like these shoes. Gore-Tex XCR keeps my feet dry.

| I use a Mountainsmith fanny pack. Not sure the model. It will carry two water bottles and a bunch of other gear (mp3, duct tape, bandages, keys, gels, cell phone, etc.) On races I use Dirty Girl Gaiters to keep the crud out of my shoes. Regular short run days I don't use them. |

I really only ever did trail runs for fun (I acutally love them) and havent really raced them (I did do Dances with Dirty one year though to help round out a team, that was pretty fun). I rarely ever carried anything with me, maybe some water if it was particulary hot. If I was running where I was not very familar with or if the trails were not marked etc I would carry a compass/GPSwith me so I could atleast get back to my truck, LOL.
For shoes I would just use what every my runner were at the time as I didnot trail run enough to justify trail shoes. J- |

A good trail-running shoe with Gore-Tex (Montrail, in my case) makes things so much more comfortable, and enjoyable so you don't start to feel the unpleasantness of soggy, sloppy shoes/socks. And I guess I'm not hardcore enough since shoes and shorts are my only equipment. Not even an mp3 player or camelback, just a bananna (maybe pB&J, too) and water before the run
ETA: spelling..

Even though the scenery is awesome, I dont care for trail running. I have a tendency to roll my ankles on roots and stuff like that so it is too easy to get injured.
I stick to the asphalt Trail running has a huge following though. . There are trail runs all over the N Ga area near where I live. Its just not for me. |
