| Ok so whats the best time to take protein. Ive heard that you should take it ~40 mins after your workout and ive heard that you should take it immediately after your workout. What say you, ARFCOM? |
|
Morning, pre workout, during workout, post workout, lunch and dinner aswell some form of proteins!
and no I dont mean have a protein bar or shake at all these times. but I like to take about 20oz of milk mixed with musclemilk to the gym and drink it throughout my workout, then when I get home I take my postworkout shake which usually has some form protein immediately after I get home. But I usually eat dinner within 30minutes after that and it always has protein, some form of meat. |

Constantly. I don't like to do protein immediately before a workout, because I don't want to waste it if I get the hurls. I'd say an hour before, then your body has protein available to get on the rebuilding immediately. Does it make much difference? I don't know, but I was always a proponent of giving your body everything it might need, and let it figure out whether it uses it or not.

I wouldn't say regularly, but it's happened to me enough to take it into consideration. That said, there may be correlation between eating pre-workout and nausea. If a guy is eating 6x per day, it's tough to NOT eat right before a workout, though. It seems like endurance leg days are the most likely to trigger the hurlinator. Lots of heavy squats, extended sled drags, etc. |

Drinking a protein shake makes me want to hurl a lot of the times anyway, due to the heaviness/thickness of the shake. I prefer to work out on an empty stomach, as I otherwise feel sluggish. |

Try some different protein then. Or different combinations. I LOVE the taste of most of my shakes, its insane how good some of them actually taste. I have friends that say they have tried protein before (friends that dont lift, and also females) and I tell them all to taste my shakes they are amazing and 95% of the time they are insanely suprised and love the taste! (I do use milk for all of mine though) |
| i am no fitness expert but i have found the best thing to do is to take a scoop of protein an hour before u go and work out...if u have any creatine and preworkout supplements take them while u run on the treadmill for 5mph for 10 min and then after u done with ur workout drink 2 scoops of protein within an hour of ur workout and dont eat within that hour to let ur muscles get the protein... |

Its best to take in a fast absorbing protein after you work out as protein synthesis is higher following training. It would serve you best if you intake 5g of Branch Chain Amino Acids before and after you workout to help keep positive nitrogen balance and upregulate protein synthesis.
I'm a noob to guns, but I can talk about this all day. |

What kind/brand shakes are you guys using? Not looking for anything to help gain weight, just replace what I've burned and account for the fact that I can't always eat right after a workout.
Anyone mixing in fruit? I discovered that the GNC near me has a smoothie bar inside. They do a shake/smoothie with some fresh/frozen fruit and any of their protein blends with skim milk. Pretty good. |

I use Scivation Whey protein, and I like it pretty good. Have also used Muscle Milk Collegiate version, but only because I go to class directly after training and do not always have time for a full meal, and it has a lot of calories. |
| I voted after workout because there was no option for the true arfcom way, BOTH! My preworkout shake is 40 grams of protein, 100 grams of carbs and 15 grams of olive oil. Post workout is another 40 grams of protein followed by a quality meal within an hour. I'm shooting for 350 grams of protein per day right now and will up that to 400-450 when I go over 240. |

Kind of a newb here (I lifted very heavy '93 to '00). I'm trying to get back into shape, round is not for me anymore.
Should I avoid whey protein all together for weight loss? I've started to use creatine again, and I like the fact that I can get a few more heavy reps in each workout. |

Eat the hell out of protein, it's the only way you'll retain your muscle mass while you're cutting down. Just avoid the carb heavy stuff. |

Thanks for the reply....right after my last reply and just before my afternoon workout I made my first protein shake. I bought the vanilla protein powder, mixed it with 1 cup of 2%, 1/2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of fresh OJ and it was pretty damn good. |
| As soon as you possibly can when you're finished lifting. You have roughly a 90 minute window after lifting to get in all your food. Your goals will determine how many/what kind of calories you should consume during this period. I usually eat my pre-workout meal about 60-90 minutes prior to lifting. When I finish my session I make a whey + dextrose shake. About an hour later I'll have a solid food meal similar to my pre-meal. |
