I'm about 175lbs, going for a goal of about 155lbs.

How much protein should I be taking in? I've heard a gram per kilo, a gram per pound, what does arfcom say?

I take it you're trying to lose weight???

For adding muscle mass, the general rule is 1 gram per pound of body weight.

first let me say I'm an ameteur at ALL of this stuff...

now for my credentials...

I went from 192 to 153 to fight at 155.  I failed to take in the 1g per lb protein.  My body consumed quite a bit of muscle in the weight loss, despite my hitting the weights every other day.

I think if you are cutting weight you want to retain as much lean muscle as possible, so with the cutting calories down to 1500-1800 range (for me) you need to make sure you are taking in the protein.

I've read that you need a half gram of protein for every 1 lb. you weigh.  175 /2 = 87.5. I would say you should shoot for about 87 grams of protein a day for right now.

You can lose weight quickly if you want, but you will lose a lot of muscle in the process.

Have you considered lifting weights to increase your muscle mass?  The more muscle you have, the easier it will be to lose weight in the long run.
