So I got my ass up at 5:30am today and did 2 10 minute Yoga sessions. it felt frickn great. I have done Yoga a lil bit before but I really want to stick with it this time. Any of you into Yoga, if so any tips or suggestions? I used to use a book but I finally bought a DVD to follow and plan to upgrade to better DVDs as I get better. |
While I have never done yoga, I have always been interested as I am not flexible at all. One of these days I'll try it out. Good Luck |
You really don't have to be flexible. My husband isn't and he just does it as best he can, but after a week or so he can feel the difference and already gets much more flexible. You can also buy Yoga Straps to help with the stretches/poses you can't reach, you can achieve the same results just doing it best you can and before you know it you are do the poses perfectly. You should try it, it just feels like my body is so open and refreshed. |

Yoga is great! I'm no expert (if you saw me doing yoga you'd agree) but let me chime in with what I know. Get a good mat. I spend some $ and got a Manduka extra-long one. If you sweat a lot, there's a type of mat that is less slippery. Take it slow. It's supposed to stretch and feel awkward but it's not supposed to hurt. Learn to breathe! Yoga is CENTERED around breathing. There is one correct way to breathe during yoga and about 20 wrong ways. Go to a yoga class. 24 hour fitness has yoga classes at most locations - you can check the schedule online. The advantage of having an instructor cannot be beat - you'll learn the right way to do things without ever learning the wrong way like you might at home. Oh, don't worry about sticking out. There are all types there, from big fat ex-football player guys to skinny chicks who can bend into a pretzel. No one cares. |
I want to try it to improve my flexibility. |

Quoted: Have always been interested in trying, but haven't got around to it.... Can anyone recommend a good instructional DVD? The DVD I bought is Flow Yoga for beginners and it has 5 different 10 minute sessions of it. There's a million different ones if you look online or at any place with DVDs (walmart, Best Buy, etc). Just start with a beginners one and you should be all set. I will look when I get home at the exact name of the one I got, the girl is pretty good and easy to follow. |

I've considered taking a yoga class as an elective as I am rounding out my senior year in college, but not real sure what I am going to do yet. About the only reason would be for the women but it would help me with some flexibility also.
Boys. There's a lot of great reasons for men to take yoga and more do than you might think. I found a snippet of Rodney Yee. He's a fantastic instructor and very knowledgable. Not to mention hotter than hell! http://www.nshouseofyoga.com/Yoga%20for%20Men.htm |
