| Ok I found out yesterday I have Fatty Liver Disease. I am 5'5 about 210 lbs. Dr. says I need to lose weight to help with the disease. I need a workout that will help with this. Problem is I can not longer run, only ride bike or anything that does not have the impact. I need all the help I can get. I am new to the gym idea. I do not drink any beer or anything like that. I had my BMI checked and I am 21% fat. |
| Strongly recommend lap swimming and/or pool exercises. Very little or no impact on joints, etc, and one of the most effective exercises you can do. YMCA, or local community pools often offer exercise classes and periods of time where the pool is reserved for that purpose. Make sure your Dr gives you the OK on whatever you choose to do. Be determined, get well, and God Bless. |

Join weight watchers and work on changing your diet and cut out alcohol. Based on your condition I would say that you first need to just walk. In the mornings or after work take a walk around your neighborhood or a local track. As it gets easier work on upping the pace. Also some light weight lifting would also probably help using only the bar. What is your heart like and what did the MD say about the activity that is safe for you? Sounds like chances are that your heart is probably on the weak side, so take if very easy and progress slowly. Since this is a very serious situation and not your average arfcomer looking to become stronger who is otherwise healthy I would also recommend that you hire a professional trainer and nutritionist (not a local gym rat) but someone who holds a degree and is certified. |

Get as nice a bicycle as you can afford and start riding. Got to the link I posted below for bicycle information and read the Clydesdale forum there. As mentioned above, swim if possible. I'm sure your doctor outlined some type of basic diet for you. If not, try to see a nutritionist for help tailoring your diet to your condition. Many will want a lot of repeat business if so, just try to get by with two ot three visits. Bike forum www.bikeforums.net/ |
