Krav Maga Israeli martial arts. I'm thinking on taking some classes in my aria. Anyone here know Krav Maga or have any opinions on it? |

It varies with who you train with. Some are good and others not so much. This is from what I have heard. There are several different styles of it, and it evolves as it goes along too. Someone can call themselves a teacher and really not much skill is required. You will have to judge from what you see and can tell of the training. ![]() The 'Commando' style that is offered over the internet on dvd's was the best that I have seen. Just my opinion. |
| It does depend on the instructor, some places are geared more towards fitness then fighting, my instructor was an ass kicker and worked us real hard with fitness and fighting. Its expensive, usually over 100 a month but go check it out and see what you think, its going to depend on what you like. |

I'm taking classes here in the Phoenix area, its geared toward a combo of fighting and fitness. The fitness classes are excellent in that they compliment the fighting classes (punching, core work, speed, intensity) perfectly... As mentioned above its ~$100 month, but its the best money I've spent in years (Outside of my ARs ) |

"Commando" Krav Maga, while an effective fighing form, is not related to Krav Maga other than the founder was a practitioner in Israel and developed the system from that base. No one at the top of any of the Krav federations knew who he was when he started advertising his form as "Krav Maga." There are, at present, 3 main groups operating in the United States: Krav Maga Worldwide (the largest); International Krav Maga Federation (getting a foothold, connected with the Israeli military federation); Krav Maga Federation, (Well established but small, operating out of NY and spreading now). There is also the FIGHT system, Haganah, developed by Mike Lee Kinarek out of Orlando, which is Krav Based (and awesome, BTW). I own a Krav school and am associated with KMWW and have trained extensively as a student in the FIGHT system. I spent years before finding Krav doing other martial arts and find this one to be the best suited for self defense and like it very much. I don't think you can go wrong training with a school affiliated with any of the 4 groups above, although as others have said, a lot of it depends on the instructor and the school. I would not train with a school that is not associated with one of those groups. This isn't to say don't train with Commando KM - just understand that while some of the basis of that group's form is founded in the same thing, there are significant differences (and I agree with what was said earlier, what I have seen looks impressive). Not so with the other groups. A good practitioner with one will be doing almost the same thing in the others, with some minor system differences and perhaps, as with the FIGHT system, slightly different emphasis on engaging an opponent. |

Check out www.fight2survive.com The Head Instructo Mike Kanerk just recieved Instructor of the year award from Black Belt magazine. I used to train in the system (F.I.G.H.T./Haganah) and really liked it. While it is not Krav Maga it does have a lot of really practical techniques. |
