Age: 37
Height: 5’ 9”
Weight: 250 pounds (naked)
Approx BF%: 38% (Ouch!)

What is your goal for this contest? To lose 50 pounds, or reduce my BF% by half. My major goal is to lose my gut (which my friends have nick-named ‘Fred’). I should also like to attract hordes of loose women, but my wife would probably object to that…

I want to be able to do 10 pushups and 10 pull-ups. I have never, in my entire life, been able to do a single pull-up.

I want to quit smoking. I smoke like a stack, but it’s my last vice. Kicked drugs, alcohol, fast cars, loud music, ugly women, and lots of other vices. Cigarettes are my last True Friend. If you’ve never smoked, you won’t have any idea what that means…

1. how and when did you get started lifting/ getting healthy?

Well, ages go, I *was* healthy, but then I got married, which is hell on a man. I was a long distance hiker and backpacker. I want to get out and do that more. I was also a full-contact martial artist, but lately I feel like an old man and not an effective fighter. So, to answer the question, I’ll *start* on January 7 when the contest begins.

2. what motivates you to hit the gym everyday?

Gym? What’s a gym? I intend to workout at home. I have bricks and lead ingots in the garage. I have a fancy treadmill with less than 7 miles on it. That should be good for something. Inversion table, cinder blocks, chin-up bar...

3. what time of day do you workout?

After work, before dinner, or late at night. That’s the only time I have. I suppose I could get up early in the morning, but I’m not a morning person.

4. what is your preferred split?

Banana with extra whipped-cream and maraschino cherries. If that’s not the right answer, I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.

5. what is your favorite bodypart to work, and what exercise?

I like to do ass-spreads on the sofa in front of the TV.

Exercise? OH… Um… I have always been into holistic exercise rather than working specific body parts. Martial forms, Yoga, and some isometrics. For strength training, weapons kata with real weapons, Iron Rod forms (which I will be doing a lot of), and jumping rope.

6. what is your least favorite bodypart to work, and what exercise?

I dread repetitive weight lifting. I get bored quickly…

7. what is(are) your favorite legal supplement(s), why?

Besides Pop-Tarts? I like Zipp-Fizz and Flintstones vitamins. Seriously. I intend to do the Zipp-Fizz every day. It gives me a light lift and I don’t crash out in the afternoon.

8. what one thing would you most like to have learned early on in your lifting career?

That you don’t just wake up fat one day. It sneaks up on you slowly.

What is your goal for this contest? Add 11 pounds of muscle. I'll worry about fat later.

1. how and when did you get started lifting/ getting healthy?
Started in late 2003. I figured I wasn't getting any younger and I wanted to stay in shape. Also make myself stronger for ju-jitsu.

2. what motivates you to hit the gym everyday?
The desire for activity, and the thought of gaining weight.

3. what time of day do you workout?
Sometimes lunch time, sometimes later in the day after work between 6pm-10pm I really don't have a set time.

4. what is your preferred split?
3 day split. My favorite is Push / Pull / Legs. Right now I am on Chest & Back / Legs / Shoulders & Arms. I change between different 3-day splits every 4-6 weeks.

5. what is your favorite bodypart to work, and what exercise?
Legs definately is my favorite. I love shoving around big weights and feeling it all through my body. Right now I'm a fan of the deadlift. I also like weighted dips for chest.

6. what is your least favorite bodypart to work, and what exercise?
Least favorite would be biceps or rear delts, just since they are such relatively weak muscles, there is not a whole lot of overall body exertion from them.

7. what is(are) your favorite legal supplement(s), why?
Never really got into supplements too much. I'd have to say whey protein though.

8. what one thing would you most like to have learned early on in your lifting career?
I wish I had known about how effective low-volume training can be. I now spend 30 minutes/day working out and get the results I did back when I was spending 60-70 minutes/day. I also quit skipping days once I got on this low volume kick.

What is your goal for this contest? Add at least 15 lbs of muscle and lose enough fat to get to single digits on body fat. I want to quit smoking and improve my cardio which is aweful.

1. how and when did you get started lifting/ getting healthy? I started lifting at age 15 but didnt know how to lift or eat till age 19.

2. what motivates you to hit the gym everyday? My turing point was 2 bouts of brain infections within 2 years. I had viral spinal meningitis and a viral brain stem inflamtion, both of which put me in the hospital and caused a drop of over 20lbs of lean weight each time. The doctors said I probably had MS because the same symptoms hit me twice and the same area of my brain was affected each time and it was getting progressively worse. They said I might not walk again the second time and I had double vision for about 2 months after I got out of the hospital. The cause, in my estimation, was a poor diet and exercise routine. I vowed to never get sick again. Now I am out of shape due to layoff from multiple injuries. I just want to be in shape again.

3. what time of day do you workout? Evenings usually, sometimes mornings or afternoons. Whenever I can fit it in.

4. what is your preferred split? Mon: Chest/Bi Wed: Legs Fri: Shoulders/Back, Mixed Martial Arts on the weekends, cardio after lifting and whenever I can fit it in.

5. what is your favorite bodypart to work, and what exercise? Chest, Flat bench. Because my chest was REALLY small when I started lifting.

6. what is your least favorite bodypart to work, and what exercise? Back, Seated cable rows. It makes me nauseas.

7. what is(are) your favorite legal supplement(s), why? Caffeine and Ephedrine. Gives me energy, cuts fat, preserves muscle, and improves the quality of any workout.

8. what one thing would you most like to have learned early on in your lifting career? Calories are more important than quality of food for building muscle. I ate clean but too few calories to grow. I also wish I understod how poor my cardio was so I could have improved it.
