Starting in a week.. I need to get myself back in shape. (been out of a routine for a couple months now)

I need to fully concentrate on calisthenics, and not so much "body building".

I have three days a week to do this, M/W/F.

Monday 7am - 8am

Wednesday   5:30am - 6:30am

Friday 5:30am - 6:30

Times will vary, I might go from 5:45-6:45 depending on the prior nights activities.

Saturday being an additional day (if I need it) or two days of rest before beginning again.
The days itself isn't that important, as much as the schedule.

I might have to switch doing M/T/TH depending on how my school schedule is going to be.

I need to get back into shape prior to the fall of this year, I need to be in the best shape of my life. The State Police will be having openings, and the majority of people fail in the physical test... I don't want to be one of them.

I am in decent shape right now, but not great. 6'5" about 185/190 pounds. No where near to fat, but not 'bulky' either.

I have access to a gym with treadmills/bikes/cross trainers/pool. And when the weather is appropriate, access to a cross-country track right next door to the gym.

I'd rather skip the 'bulking up', and just stick with the basics.

Thats what the test is.

Thanks.

Swimming is great - but you also need to work on whatever the physical fitness test will cover.

Persistence is the key - anything is you do is better than nothing, but again, concentrate on things that will actually help and matter.

Hope this helps.

What type of running program should I have though?

I don't want to kill myself just yet either, I have time.. I want to use it to my advantage.

If you can find out what the physical test is like for that department, that would help a ton in designing a program.

Exactly my thought.  I can't imagine they don't have is posted somewhere either on their website or another site - even a forum.  I look at things like this - anything you've ever wondered, someone else has wondered enough times to start a forum about it.

Yes - you have time - but don't let the time sneak up on you.  If you are serious about doing this - go above and beyond.  If you are "more than ready" when the day comes it will seem much easier with the added stress.

Just my thoughts...

Well..

They require a 1.5 mile run to get in, once in the academy, its up to 5-6 miles on all sorts of terrain. (a beach being one of them)

I'd just like to get something going to help me get back into shape.
