I need to purchase a recumbent exercise bicycle very soon and I would appreciate any brand/model recommendations and advice (pro or con) from those of you who have or had one.

My priority criteria are sturdiness (I am 6'3 and 300#) and compactness/portability (I'd like to be able to move it out of the way when not in use)... but I realize these two may be mutually exclusive, so I'll accept a good balance between the two.

I personally bought the below Schwinn recumbent. It is highly rated on many sites and it is VERY well made, although my electronic control box died within five minutes and had to swap it out for another one at Sears. It is also VERY SMOOTH! The resistance is one of the best and it also has a freewheel so you can stop pedalling when needed.

It is very big guy friendly...

Ditto on the Model 213 from Sears.  Set mine up last Friday and have been happy so far.

Where were you guys last week?!?!

I went by Sears on my way home Friday night and bought one.  A less-expensive model than the one y'all linked, but it adjusts long enough for my long legs (I'm 6'3") and short enough for my tiny wife, and I tried it in the store before buying and liked it quite a bit.

Thanks anyway!

Well hopefully you like the bike you ended up with.  As a dealer of schwinns we finally gave up on carrying their electronic bikes because every single one of them needs to be replaced.  The airdynne and the spinners are the only ones that work.  If anybody needs a decent replacement check out the SportsArt C52R.  Thing is like a lazyboy and not one has had an issue.
