Anyone ever do this? Hurts like hell! Muscle spasm for almost a week straight. Then afterwards, burning pain just standing up and walking etc. Never had any back problems before. What works best for you? Doesn't seem like time is healing things.

Thanks. Tried that when the injury first happened. Muscle relaxers didn't help, first one or two made me groggy. No effect at all after that.

I was thinking more like, PT or some kind of exercise that may target those muscles..not sure if that would do more harm than good.

Uhhh, how about some light stretching.

Follow that with maybe a hot bath.

Electronic acupuncture. It saved my life.

I had all my back muscles spasm out on me and I was in agony for several years after that.
I tried therapy and drugs to no avail.

I was the most skeptical person but it does work. But don't expect a miracle with only one treatment. It will take about 4 -6 months.

I first went twice a week for about 4 months, then once a week for about another 2 months. Now I go once a month whether I need it or not.

I will never be free of it and will have it the rest of my life. But now I can manage and live with it.

Sit-ups.  Lower back strain can come from overall poor conditioning.

Try laying some ceramic tile..............

Yup - or other abdominal muscle work.

Your back is plenty strong, work on the other side to balance things out.

It didn't work for me.  Over a thousand sq feet so far + demo.  Scrape and texture ceilings, paint.  In the last two days I fitted, hinged, and hung seven doors plus two closets.  I haven't been to the range in weeks.....

My back has given me no problems.  I think it was more temperamental when I was younger.

Sometimes you have to stop doing the things that are causing the pain, such as bending your knees when you shave and brush your teeth.  Changing your mattress.  Throwing out the bad couch.  Let the chicky get on top for a couple weeks. Stuff like that.

I find when I "over do it" (yard work, etc.) that a combination of anti-inflammatories (Advil, Motrin, etc.) and rest will usually aid in recovery. The deconditioning thing is true, and low back exercises will usually help to prevent future injuries.

Thanks for the replies. I googled and found some stretching exercises. I hurt this area last year by shoveling. I thought it would have been all well and good by now.

DO NOT DO SIT-UPs WITH A BAD BACK!!!!
are you guys trying to kill this dude??
Ibuprofen instead of Flexeril.
When my back flairs-up i shower with the water as hot as i can stand it on my back, then turn the water cold - as cold as it goes, then let the cool water reduce the swelling.
Hot water a day or two after you hurt it is best. Try a heating pad while you watch TV, and get some Tiger Balm or Biofreeze

Lack of flexability is one the biggest reason for bad back.  My problem was that my hip rotated due to lack of flexability.  Went to a PT and she took care of me.  She pushed down through my abdomin to massage a muscle to relax my hips.  Worked like a charm.

There is alot of causes for lower back pains, I would think if your having this much pains you should see a doctor or at least a chiropractor before asking on a public forums about a medical condition.

Most of the suggestions people posted are correct, but they may not apply in your case(And thats alot of things to try when your already in pain).

I picked up something real heavy, many years ago and injured my lower back. Could hardly walk for over 2 weeks.
At the time, I had no insurance, so I never saw a doctor. It took almost 6 months before I was completely healed. Even with proper medical treatment, some injuries take a long time. Don't freak out if it takes a while. A week is nothing for a back injury.

I injured my back so bad I could barely walk in highschool.  It was litterally difficult to lift my foot up to the next step on a flight of stairs.  I had to get a pass to take the elevator for disabled people.  I went to the chiropractor that all the males in my family use as we all have some form of low back problems.  I thought chiropactors were quacks.  He told me I needed a minor adjustment of my spine.  I thought he was nuts.  I hurt so bad though that I would do anything.  he did several things to loosen me up and finally put my left knee by my right ear pressed it into my chest and told nme to relax while exhaling.  When he pressed in my upper leg to my chest my low back popped and I felt instantaneous relief.  I litterally could not walk into the place unassisted. I walked out without pain.  Go see a chiropractor.
