Did any one watch UFC 59?

Andrei Arlovski Vs. Tim Sylvia

Tim Sylvia = New Heavy Weight Champ

Tito Ortiz Vs. Forrest Griffin

Ortiz = win by Decision

Evan Tanner Vs. Justin Levens

Tanner = Submission at 3:14 in the 1st round by Triangle Choke

What did yall think of the Ortiz / Griffin fight?     Who do yall think really won?

Can't say I can argue with the Ortiz/ Griffin decision.  I don't agree with the judge who scored the fight 30-27 but I can't say Griffin really did anything to win that fight unless you count stuffing takedowns, whereas Ortiz clearly won round 1.  I had the fight 29-28 Ortiz.

The Sylvia/ Arlovski fight absolutely caused my jaw to hit the deck.  I thought Sylvia was done after getting dropped with that right hand.  Big props to him for getting up and keeping his hands in the game.

As for the undercard: Levens was outclassed, Diaz was outmuscled, Monson/ Cruz was a snoozefest, and Parisyan made that other guy look like and extra from Carrie.  Parisyan deserves a shot at Hughes.

Anybody know who else is fighting at 60 besides Hughes/ Gracie?

I think that's the only one that's been announced so far.

ETA: Only rumor I've heard is John Alessio vs. Diego Sanchez, but not confirmed.

Agreed, I don't think it's going to live up to the hype.  Royce's style is suited more for longer fights, I hope he can adapt to the shorter rounds and the standups.  I would never count Royce out though, because he's been in with some guys bigger/stronger than Matt, but I don't think he's dealt with someone as explosive.

ETA: I don't really want to see it, I know Matt, and I idolized Royce from the early UFC's and I probably would have never started training if it wasn't for him.  I just think this is a bad matchup for him.

I remember watching the first UFC on a tape my buddy lent me (video camera set up to watch the TV) the day after.  WOW!
Plus the highlight reel they showed the other night made me realise something though......Gracie was a little bit of a jerk those first UFC's.  Let me explain.  Every fight that the guy tapped, he taps like a madman and even Big John had to force Gracie off the guys.  He broke that Kung Fu guys arm AFTER he tapped.
Don't get me wrong I like watching his fights but the level of sportmanship (I know, it wasn't a SPORT then) was lacking for most of the fights I saw.

Should be a hell of a good fight (old school Vs New school) but my monies on Hughes.

That said we're having a local promoters Cage fights tommorow night at the Armoury in Frankfort KY.  Talked to the promoter and he seems to have his sh!t toghter(no booze, security, willingness to cooperate) so hopefully we won't have to lock anybody up.

The kung fu guy was Jason DeLucia, I believe they had fought before.  If my memory is right, he did the "Gracie Challenge" back in the day, and for whatever reason they had a little bit of bad blood.  Not that I'm defending injuring someone intentionally.

I grew up with and trained with Jason Delucia. He's an unbeleivable fighter and martial artist, but even he was unprepared as far as grappling goes. He's a far better puncher and kicker than Gracie ever was.He still fights in Japan. Here's his website:

Matt Hughes is a GREAT fighter.  I think he is one of the two best in UFC along with Rich Franklin.  BUT, I will not bet against Royce Gracie ever.  My prediction is Gracie with a submission in the first.  I have never bought a ppv, but I will buy this one.  WOW!

I am rooting for Royce Gracie, but I realize Matt Hughes will probably win.  Gracie must be getting a serious paycheck to fight Hughes.

Gracie changed the face of MMA sport fighting back in the day.  I highly doubt he will survive the pounding Matt can lay into him. If I had to make a prediction I would say Matt wins in the second round by KO/TKO.
