Today I forgot my workout clothes and managed to smack my car into a curb...gonna be one of those days! No 'vid, or any other illness I can identify. I've stopped being so lazy with my running (actually getting up in the morning now), but I do feel like I've lost a bunch of speed and fitness that I shouldn't have. 9.45 / 3,453 Some 5 minute "marathon pace" effort intervals. lol. I hit the paces well enough, but it felt more like half marathon effort or perhaps a bit harder. I'll get back eventually. |

13.7 / 1362 Had a tough long run today. Pyramid run is how I would describe it. The last few miles were a bit of a slog. 9 minutes easy 40 min marathon pace 8 min threshold 50 min marathon pace 9 min easy I did unintentionally set a 10k PR (51:15) and a HM PR (1:51:27). I do have the annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, where I'll be racing a 10k to get a better idea of my fitness as I continue to train for my Feb marathon. Weather finally cooling down in my parts. Hope y'all are doing good. |

Have only been able to hunt for maybe three hours total. Last year we took 3 deer. We just finished off the last pack of ground a few weeks ago. Had to buy some ground turkey at the store too tide us over which felt weird. At this point I might be buying a lot more! My daughter and I have a hunt planned, but she's on crutches right now and I don't know how she'll do hobbling around the deer lease. We don't have a 4x4 or sxs so it's a lot of walking. We'll figure it out though. |

You'll be able to crush those the first time you toe a start line for the actual race distances. |

14 / 3,486 The first thing I could consider a long run in a month, and easily my biggest week in a month. It's crazy to me how my fitness seems so bad now when 4-5 weeks ago I was in the best shape I've ever been in. |

What shoes do you all wear and how often do you replace them? I personally use the Brooks Ghost Max for my easy runs, Brooks Hyperion Tempo for short (5-7 mile) tempo runs, and Hola Mach X2 for long (7-20 mile) moderate to tempo runs. I also just picked up a pair of the Nike Zoom Fly 6 and I’m curious to see where they fit in the rotation. For race day (half-full marathon) I have the Hoka Rocket X2. Generally I’m looking to replace somewhere around 250-300 mile mark, with a couple pair going up to 350 miles. I had a conversation with my brother and a colleague who were thinking close to the 500 mile mark was good for shoes but I think they are risking injury at that point. |

@bip_master I rotate through quite a few styles and pairs. My go-to daily mileage shoe is the Altra Escalante, and has been for many years. Races are usually a Saucony Endorphin Pro or Elite. I did really like the Asics Metaspeed years ago, so I'll probably give those a shot next year. Workouts are usually either the race shoe I used for my last cycle, or a discounted pair of those from their previous generation or two. Just keeping similarity between my race and workout shoes while keeping costs down. Long runs are either the Escalantes or whatever I've used for speed work. More likely the speed shoe if I have a fast section of the long run or if it's getting close-ish to race day. Recovery days... I haven't found anything I really love for this yet. I've mostly tried more heavily cushioned Altra or Saucony shoes. Maybe those were too firm and I want something squishy. More testing incoming. I've gotten over 500 miles on some pairs of shoes, while others have felt dead by 150. It's more of "how do these feel" that determines this for me. Once I notice they aren't feeling all that great I'll retire them and use new ones regardless of how many miles are on them. |

8/1626.5 @bip_master New to running so only been through a few pairs. Started off with the brooks glycerin. They were good for a few hundred miles. Then went and bought 2 pairs of ASICS gel nimbus 25. Cycled those every other run. Put 400 on each of those then bought one more pair of gel nimbus 25 and a pair of saucony triumph. I mistakenly wore the triumphs for my 50k and had some major blisters. I cycle these 2 pairs every other run. About due for another pair, or 2, so I’m interested in what everyone has to say. |

| I tried the Saucony Triumph early in the year and I should have gone up a half size. The toe box was tight and the cushioning didn’t feel very stable after 100 miles. Ended up with a shin splint from them. Retired the shoes and rested a week and no problems since. Has me gun-shy to try Saucony again. |

Wife has been on my ass about spending so much money on running. I don’t really know much about the drop and all that jazz. I also am not sure if the shoes with too much cushion are a bad thing. I ran in a pair of the nimbus for my marathon and felt great after. I would like to look into a pair of actually “racing” shoes, carbon plated, but have read they’re only good for 100 miles. Anybody run in carbon plated shoes? |

| I am just getting started with the Nike Zoom Fly 6 and have just over a hundred miles on the Hoka Mach X2 (Pebax plate instead of carbon fiber). So far I am enjoying the plated trainers. You definitely feel the push forward, more so on the Hoka than the Nike. The ride feels comfortable and I have not experienced any foot issues. |

8.5 this morning. Have the 10k race on Thursday. VDOT isn't giving me any rest, I assume because it's a secondary race, and has me running 10 miles tomorrow and another 4 on Wednesday. I may shorten tomorrow's run and do 4 as well to attempt to recover a bit so I can push harder on Thursday. We'll see. Also need to figure out my goal time. VDOT has me at 46:47 and Garmin 45:26. I'll probably set my pace to 46:00 and full send the last mile or two if I'm feeling good. |

As far as shoes - I run in Brooks a lot though I think I need .5 size up. I notice my toes get kinda achy on long runs. Have tried some of the more popular models and some I like, others not so much. I have some Endorphin Speed 3s that get a lot of good feedback, I don't like them much. But something that's really hard for me is describing why I don't like them. Or why I do like a different shoe. It's like drinking wine - you can taste the difference between two cabs, but sometimes it's hard to really say what you like or dislike about them. You know they are different and can taste the difference, but describing why you don't like it is hard. Hearing people talk about feeling the rocker, or the mid strike being hard, or blah blah kinda makes me roll my eyes. Our feet are on the ground for fractions of a second - how are we supposed to tell the nuance of a shoe when you're also trying to avoid potholes, acorns, and vehicular traffic on the roads? ![]() I wish I could really dial in on shoes but it's just not for me. |

My running shoes are all 11.5 I wear about 10.5 for regular shoes. By the time I’m done with my long runs my feet swell up the fit just right, maybe even a touch tight. Yeah, the technical hub bub on the different running shoes seems a bit much too me. But what do I know, I read the reviews on my favorite running shoes (asics gel nimbus 25) and everyone says they’re good for recovery runs, but lately I’ve been wearing them and only them. Likely buying another pair, or 2, soon. |

? For garmin Bros: Back in may before my 1st marathon my marathon race prediction time was 3:22. Ran it in 3:25. Was training pretty decently. I have ran for 29 days straight as of today. Probably in the best shape I’ve been in, in a long time. Granted, a lot of my runs are slowish pace. Easy pace. Ever since I started this streak, my marathon race prediction has just declined. All the way to 3:37. Why tho? |

Ever since I started this streak, my marathon race prediction has just declined. All the way to 3:37. Why tho? What model watch do you have? That metric keys off a lot of things (taking more into account the newer the watch is) - typical pace, HR, training volume, as well as how it views your sleep, recovery, and stress levels if you wear it daily and at night. And that prediction (which are typically pretty off) is also a snapshot in time - it will change as those metrics all change as well. But when your training volume is constant the predictions also stay fairly constant. It's likely taking that increase in training volume (and likely other things as well) and thinking that you're more tired and thus not able to run as fast right now - but if your training volume dropped, you did some sharpening workouts, and recovered more that predicted time would likely go down as well. |

6.2 10k Turkey Trot. Ran pretty hard. Felt good until mile 3ish where the course turned and I ended up running into the wind for about 1.5 miles down a road. From there we turned around and I had it at my back, but don't really feel like those efforts canceled each other out lol. Didn't realize it was supposed to be windy at all but that's the way it goes sometimes. Chip time was 47:12, which was a PR. Garmin predicts 45:14 and VDOT was 46:54, so overall both systems were close and I think I could have reached those times if it weren't for the windy section in the middle of the run. Overall happy with my performance. Happy Thanksgiving all. |
