Was shooting for 7.25 miles this morning until the treadmill broke down. I bought it in 2016, replace everything (still under warranty) but the frame and control/display in 2019 and now it looks like another overhaul is needed. I'm going to do some weight training by breaking it down and taking it to the city dump as its about three years out of warranty now. As a bonus, this will make me run outside year round regardless of weather. Time to buck up on those rain days. |

Yesterday's snow melted then refroze overnight, so I was stuck on my treadmill for a workout. |

Rained all day yesterday. Trails and sidewalks were wet and muddy. Constantly dodging mess to prevent wet feet and poor traction amps up the intensity and mental game of running. I think I'm technically off tomorrow but might get a few miles in |

I killed my treadmill, dammit. The thing just turned off .81mi into the actual work portion of my workout today and won't turn back on. |

Sucks about the treadmill. Wish I had one today! We've been dealing with winter weather and the roads and sidewalks are frozen

I had a call at work end much sooner than scheduled (in a good way) and so I managed to get my workout in outside.

Do 'fast' shoes make a difference? Are these real things?
Current daily driver is a Brooks Glycerin 20. These are pretty nice to run in. I also have a pair of Launch 8s - these definitely 'feel' different but I think there's $50 or more separating them, too. As I continue to get more serious about running, I'm looking at gear and naturally I'm drawn to the various ways shoes are marketed. Do y'all use different shoes for different runs and why? |

View Quote Yes, they make a difference. Especially the latest generation "super shoes" with carbon plates and PEBAX foam. Very cushioned, yet very responsive and light. Much lighter than an everyday trainer. Most companies with these also have a "training" version with a nylon plate that is less expensive. I use one pair of standard shoes for everyday runs and usually long runs (Altra Escalante). Then a pair of more cushioned shoes for slow, easy, recovery days (usually Altra Torins). For workouts I use the Saucony Endorphin Speed. This is the cheaper version of my preferred racing shoe (Saucony Endorphin Pro). The fancy plated shoes are super expensive - usually about $250+. The workout versions aren't cheap, but are cheap enough to train in compared to the racing versions. A person certainly doesn't need such a rotation, but it is nice (it also helps spread miles across different pairs so they last longer). Your Glycerines would be more along the everyday/recovery shoe while the launch for workouts or maybe racing. |

View Quote I use Saucony Guide 10's for outdoor running and Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18's for running on the treadmill. For me it's the shoe drop that matters as they both are built similar. |

Brooks just seem to feel the best to me when I put them on so that's what I buy. Right now I'm at 200 or so miles on the Glycerin's but feel like trying something else. |

View Quote I'm not an expert on Brooks shoes, but I think the Glycerines are possibly their most cushioned pair. The Ghost might be worth a try. If Brooks are what feel good to you then stick with them. No harm in trying out any others at a running specialty store if you want to see about branching out. The Saucony Endorphin Shift (3rd edition, specifically) falls into the super-cushioned recovery category. The Altra Torin is nice, the Altra Via Oympus has more cushion but is rather firm - I'm not a huge fan of this one. Just throwing out a couple suggestions based on what I have experience with. ETA: The Hyperion Max looks like it falls into that category of super-cushioned speed/training shoe more than a recovery/easy miles shoe and I think uses the same foam (though perhaps a different amount) as does the Glycerine. |
