Hi all,
I am making an attempt to get my old, terribly out of shape and overweight ass in gear and begin a workout program. I know virtually nothing about the new trends and am wondering if there is any kind of app recommended that will provide baseline exercise programs that I can follow to include prospective weights to begin and reps. I know they have apps that allow you to track your progress but That is not what I'm looking for. My attempts to design my own workouts in the past have led to no gains, no progress, and frustration. Any help is much appreciated! |

If you are looking to gain muscle, just get the official starting strength app. Â It is very solid.
If you want to lose weight and live healthier, I'm not sure of an app for that. Â I'd go read over scoobys workshop though, he gets made fun of a lot, but he offers a lot of free knowledge to help beginners out. Â He covers everything. |
| I'd either go with starting strength or SL5x5(lots of members here have used this app to great success). Both are solid linear progression programs to get going with. For nutrition stuff I'd get myfitnesspal. Adjust your macros and calories appropriately(40p/30f/30c seems to be a good starting point then adjust depending on goals). |

I tried using Jefit but it never feels right tracking on the phone.
I usually make a quick table in Word with my workout, progression and set/rep schemes and track with a pen and paper. For some reason it just feels more natural for me. I get to work out at home though, so I have a table in the basement with my workout sheet, stereo and weight percentage cheat cheat. If I had to go to the gym I don't think I would want to lug around a clip board. |

Hi All,
I've downloaded and been using the 5 x 5 app and am enjoying it so far. Does anyone know if it will ad other exercises as it progresses or will I need to do it? Fpr instance, so far it has not had me do any specific biceps exercises or tricep either other than the bench and various presses. Thanks! |

Thanks! your biceps and anything else will get plenty of work with the compound barbell movements. once you get a good solid baseline of strength from the basic program, then you can add all the curls and whatever else you want, even though they are still not really needed for overall strength and quality of life as you age. I would also recommend you buy this book and read it: https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Prescription-Strength-Training-After/dp/0982522770?tag=vglnk-c102-20 the first half of the book will help you understand they why's in all of this. |

Also form is very important especially on squats, post a video here or whatever you need to do to make sure you are doing them right. |
