Should you warm up before doing situps?

I had never really thought abou this before but I increased the amount of situps I do and I pulled a couple of lower stomach muscles.

IMO, every muscle, including abs, should get 2-3 light warm up sets before the heavy/high rep sets.  If you are just doing situps without any weight, try starting with 3 warm up sets at 50%, 60%, and 70% of the maximum number of reps you can do.  Then, after 3 warmup sets, go for the maximum number of reps you can do.  Just a quick side note, if you are doing a lot of reps (more than 20 or so) try holding some weight on your chest while doing your situps.

Hey Mike.  Welcome to AR15.com.

If situps are part of your normal routine, start with 10lbs.  If you don't usually work abs, don't use any weight until you can easily do 20-30 reps and/or you don't feel like situps are really working your abs.  If 10 lbs is too easy, add five pounds the following workout.  Do this until you can only do 8-10 reps.  I usually only do crunches, as it's easier on my lower back, I can still use weights, and I can get the same effect if I concentrate on working my abs.
