A fellow I work with is what you might call a fitness "Guru".  Very healthy great shape etc.  Anyway I have asked him about my recent dilemma and he explained there is a "technique" to running.  He explained that when you are young this technique is actually the way you normally run.  Years of play as a kid etc. build muscle and muscle memory.  Then he exlained that it is possible to go years without doing much of anything(me) and then bam you try to start a good running/exercise routine and this learned technique that helped you play tag is forgotten.  He explained that sometimes you go out and start "swinging" your legs along and slamming the foot on the ground pretty much using the upper leg and beating the hell out of the lower part.  So he gave me a few tips and I was surprised that in fact his advice seems to help and therefore make some sense.  He says to feel your lower leg and calf contibute to moving you along.  Almost a bouncing like motion using the whole leg and foot.

You know he was talking about running/playing as a kid and to be totally honest I do not remember ever getting tired out or winded from running, riding a bike, anything when I was a kid.  Why?  Old age!
