I started trying out some of the recipes from the "Feed Zone" cook book by Allen Lim and Biju Thomas (respectively, the former Dir. of Sports Science and chef for team Garmin).  The book is great because every single recipe is SIMPLE, fast, and the ingredients are 95% of things you're likely to already have in your pantry or fridge.  If a recipe does call for something you don't have on hand, it's always something simple from the grocery store (as opposed to the odd tendency for some similar books to require gourmet shopping).

Tonight, I made Lim's famous rice cakes.

2 cups of calrose rice
3 cups of water
4 scrambled eggs
Brown sugar and salt (garlic salt for me) to taste
Mix and press flat.  Cut cakes and wrap.  Pocket and ride.

They go down super easy and provide about the same calories as a Clif Bar.   And unlike a Clif Bar, I can swallow one of these in a single gulp and keep on pushing the pace.  And they're DELICIOUS.  This pan made 12 but only 10 made it to the fridge.

I too own that book, and have made a couple of things out of it.

I made the pasta with tuna for dinner, and made one of the ham and swiss cheese breakfast sandwiches, to eat pre-ride.

There's a lot of good recipes in there, and I like that they put the calories, and carbs at the bottom of the page. I gotta slim down if I'm gonna look good in my ARFCOM jersey, at this years Tour!!
