I'm having a little trouble meeting my protein goals while I am dieting. So far I'm down 20 lbs and I don't feel like I've lost any strength or muscle mass, but I have been working hard to maintain what I have. However, I am about to get much more serious about my lifting. I'm ordering Starting Strength, and I want to pick up some protein mix to go with it. My plan will be to mix it with almond or soy milk.

I bought a few of the muscle milk light's today. I like the flavor, but not so much on the price.

At this point, lower calorie is the order of the day. Hopefully once I reach my goal weight I'll be able to go to the regular stuff.

I am not looking for a meal replacement, I am looking for something to take after my workout to help with recovery. I generally try to time my workouts so that I'll have a meal following them, but I've been caught with my pants down (so to speak) at work a few times with call outs.

So what say you?

Optimum Nutrition 100% whey is my standard, and I typically buy on Amazon because of free shipping.

ON Whey is what I've been using for a few years.

I drink it with water and it's nice enough, and occasionally I'll treat myself and have it with whole milk

Thanks for the input. I have used Fitness Labs in the past but couldn't get past the taste without milk.

Free shipping on Amazon (I have Prime!) is a plus, too.

Stay away from muscle milk, it's garbage. Same with muscle tech and all the others with big flashy marketing.

Optimum Nutrition as mentioned above is good quality, keep in mind you'll be paying a bit more but it's definitely worth it.

Hydro Whey is the one I go with, smaller particles makes it more readily available and more likely to be utilized.

Thanks for the input. I'd heard that in the past, but was pretty limited by what I was able to get my hands on today. It's good to hear it confirmed though.

You guys have me starting to second guess mixing it with milk rather than water too

I use Dymatize Elite Whey, and have for quite a few years.  The chocolate tastes fairly good, even with just water, and it mixes easily.  I buy it through DPS Nutrition online - usually 10lbs at a time.

Another Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard user here.  Good with water, better with milk.  Or just put it in a smoothie.

Optimum Nutrition chocolate cream and Isopure dutch chocolate are the two best tasting powders I've found.  I made a shake with Isopure, ice, and coconut milk that was delicious.

ON makes awesome products.

About 30-45 minutes before I lift I make a shake in the blender.

-1 scoop of ON 100% Whey Strawberry banana flavor, 2 strawberries, half a banana, and about 8oz of 1% milk. Blend it altogether and drink it down.

Post-workout Shake

-1 scoop of ON Pro-Complex Rich Chocolate Flavor, half a banana, and about 10oz of milk.

(I also eat after that)
