Walking through the park a few weeks ago and came across these guys. Judging by the shape they are in it is a good workout. The black guy was pretty incredible with what he could do.

| I trained Capoeira for several years, it will get you in excellent shape. As far as fighting practicality goes, it depends with who, and how you train. That group was practicing regional (hegional) which focuses more on acrobatics techniques and speed. Angola focuses more on "realistic" tactics with very little flying and flipping. The training will help with your kinesthetic awareness, flexibility and reaction time. On its own, it is lacking in hand techniques but the kicks generate a tremendous amount of power. I have used several of the techniques succesfully when sparring in combination with boxing and muay thai. It is actually quite fun if you are in to it. Many people might see a group of karate practitioners doing kata and say "Karate is no good for fighting," there are many old school karate guys out there that are very effective with what they know. Besides, training isn't always about fighting, sometimes it is just about having fun and getting a good workout. |
