apparently i have Bursitis. had the sack drained and quarter zone injected into it today.
the doc says i can resume running on tuesday but to take it very easy and listen to my body. IE a one or two mile run the first time out and if that goes well, to increase it slowly. the only thing i can think of that would cause my injury to the bursa sack in the outer side of my left knee is that some drunk asshole bit it big time in the bar and landed on my knee. i didnt feel anything at the time just a drunk tripping into me. but dancing later on that night it kind of hurt a little. a day or two later it seemed to be ok. there was no pain with the entire event, except when i would kneel down on that knee and the short time i was dancing a hour or so after the impact into my knee that night 1 month ago. assuming that night was even the cause of it. I am a triathlete and dont do any impact sports like basketball, football, or jiu jitsu. i ski, did jiu jitsu back in college, and mostly run bike swim these days. since the impact from the drunk guy, i did a few 2 hour bike rides and 6-8 mile runs since then, but this monday after a 5 mile run it flared up and filled with fluid. should i let it heal longer than a few days? or will i be good to go come next week? im just looking for ideas on how long i should lay off the running and cycling for. thanks edit; i have a marathon coming up in late september, so i dont have the leisure of taking a month off |

Your vO2max won't start to drop for a couple weeks, so you can afford to take a break. Really the only thing you can do if it flares up again is immediately stop and ice it ASAP. If you continue to have problems you can get the doc to drain it, or worst case they can remove the bursa sac (bursectomy). If they give you an anti-inflammatory med, it's really just a high dose of aspirin, so don't expect wonders. |

i got that in my shoulder this spring while ice climbing. Took a fall and tried to be a hero and catch myself on my ice tool, which I did, but the weight on one extended shoulder turned out to be a mistake.
I did lots of ibuprofin and stretching. Pretty much back to normal again, pushups and pullups arent a problem, swimming still irritates it a little as does climbing... Oh well. Good luck. |
