| I used to work out hard year round doing Cardio but got exhausted several times; I learned about Periodization, implemented a program, and now all is well. Does anyone here practice a year-long periodization program in their Strength training, or is periodization not appropriate for strength training at all? |

Overly simplified periodization is a means of organization of training. Although it is not presented in such a simplified manner. There is nothing wrong with having a plan. For me I will plan for powerlifting meets and right now Im 16 weeks out. The farther away the time, the less detail there is in planning. As I progress towards, say June, I might slowly add in some details but it isn't so detailed that I can tell you just what exercise I will do for what reps in June. By the time June rolled around I would probably realize my very specific plan now needs modified, so why take the time to plan out details that will probably be changed anyways?
Or for a very simple answer, yes periodization is appropriate for strength training. |
| Just like endurance training, the value of periodization depends on one's goal. Peaking for a powerlifting competition - periodization probably matters more than for someone just trying to get stronger, but without the need to maximize gains on a specific date. |
