Does Anyone have any experience with this round for long distance ~1K Shooting?  My Father had a 1903 re chambered for the round and I have a lot of cases and the dies for it.  Very similar to the 300 WM and nearly identical to the 30-338 it should be a great round for 1000-1200M shooting.  I was hoping to pair it with a 210gr SMK.

I won't be shooting it out of the 1903, rather I am looking at a new build.

So stay with the Old Cartridge, or get a 300WM?

I have a 30-338 I picked up from a smith that closed up shop. I have never fired it. All the research I did basically said unless you are already heavily invested to just go 300 win mag. The Smith that built the gun I have built it for himself and said he would have done 300 if he had planned to sell it.

All three are great rounds and will basically perform the same at the end of the day. Some guys swear by the Norma or 30-338 but they are all pretty equal.

I recently picked up a 30-338 WM from a guy locally.  He had put 49 rounds down the tube.  I ran a borescope down the tube and the rifling is still razor sharp so it is unlikely that many rounds were put down by the first owner.  The second owner got it from a pawn shop that didn't know what he had.  I got Redding Competition Dies (including TiN bushing), 100 pieces of neck turned brass and a tight neck 30-338WM on a trued Rem 700 action.  It was for sale for $900 with everything included so I went ahead and got it without knowing a thing about the cartridge.

After I got it home, I researched the heck out of the cartridge.  As Alaska indicated, it is ballistically similar to the 308 Norma Magnum and very similar to the 300 WM.  I researched the history of this cartridge and back in the day, both cartridges were 1k yard bench rest cartridge that won many tournaments.

The case for the 308 Norma Magnum is similar to the 30-338 WM, but has a slightly longer neck.

I have been considering having my rifle rechambered to 300 WM, but it is a short action (meant to be bench rest and single fed only).  I have also considered the 308 Norma Magnum as well.  I have a 300 WM that is a couple of weeks away from being finished so not sure that I want a second 300 WM.  The 308 Norma Magnum isn't a cheap cartridge to load for.  Brass is only available through Norma and at least $1.50 a round.  I like Redding Competition dies and there are none available for the 308 Norma.

I have very little invested in this rifle so I may just keep it as is for now or actually rechamber to 308 Norma Magnum just so I'm not running a tight necked bench rest gun.

I am going ahead with my 308 Norma mag build, I spoke with Pacific Tool today and they are going to get me a set of 308 Norma Mag Match reamers built in the next week or so.  I have already contacted GA precision about the build and they are willing to do it.

So it looks like I am going to have a 308 Norma MK 13 by the end of the year!

I have found a bunch of 308 Norma both cases and loaded ammo on Gunbroker, and I average ~$1 a round/case so far.  At this point I have over 500 cases and factory loaded ammo.
