Looking for some hard case suggestions.  Most of the shooting spots I go are 4x4 access only, so I would like a little bit more protection than a soft case bouncing in the bed or cab of my truck.

I've been eyeballing This but the $600 price tag is a bit off-putting.  I could buy a few Pelican cases and cut them for a few of the rifles for that price.  What I do like about it is the universal-ish fit.  I don't like the idea of buying a dedicated case for each precision rifle, each AR, etc. Not to mention finding a place to store all of the cases when they are empty/at the house.

What are the other options for a solid universal case?

Edit:

So far, I've found the following that look interesting.  Anyone have one?  The initial one I linked is WAY too short.

http://www.casesbypelican.com/1750G.htm (egg crate type foam, no dedicated cuts) $293

http://casecruzer.com/shipping-carrying-cases/kr5115-06/index.html (egg crate type foam, no dedicated cuts) $264.82

http://www.casecruzer.com/guncruzer/universal-gun-kr50/modular-case/gun-case-2cm-index.html  (interesting design, not sure how well it protects) $394.74

http://www.casesbypelican.com/pelican-double-rifle-case.htm (not too sure about this design either) $363.91

I got this one for $38, look around, for the price it's nice. The retaining straps can be moved around for different guns and mags.

Should have probably mentioned that my (current) longest bolt gun is 49" overall (28" barrel).

You really don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a pelican or similar case unless you really want to, especially if you don't fly with them alot.

Flambeau makes some pretty darn good hard cases that aren't a whole lot of money.

Hell I have one of these cheap things that I haven't managed to break in the last 3 years. Have carried around all manner of guns that it holds securely and I typically throw it in the bed of my truck on the way to the range. Those Flambeaus are a little heavier construction though.

You could also try something crazy like tying down your gun cases if you are extreme offroading to get to your shootin spots

I love my pelican cases.

You can also buy replacement foam for them to fit multiple guns.
