I won a Zeiss hd5 5-25x50 almost 2 years ago. I never mounted it because I don't have a rifle that needs that much scope.
I'm tired of this scope sitting in the safe and have decided I need to get a good rifle to go with it. I'm getting either a bergara 6.5c or a tikka ctr 260. I've never put together anything for over 500yd. I don't foresee myself shooting this setup over 1000. Will this scope get the job done or do I need to trade and add some cash for a better suited scope? |

I'd get a scope more suited to the task at hand, The capped turrets and reticle designs aren't made for long range shooting and would end up frustrating you if you want to get into the game at all. Edit: I guess they have both "Features side parallax adjustment and is available with Z-Plex reticle or RAPID-Z® reticles with or without lockable target turrets and zero stop." Which do you have OP? |

I have rapid z. Not sure about the lockable turrets |

I think that would be fine for casual shooting steel out to 1000 yds.
Someone else mentioned the BDC reticle not being suitable measuring or hold overs. Yes, if time is a factor and you need to quickly make adjustments while staying on target, such as in a PRS competition, you want a different reticle in FFP. |
| That Rapid Z reticle has some measuring marks on it that look useful for determining clicks or holdover for misses. A bit different than what I use, but I see no reason why that wouldn't be a great general purpose scope once you learn to use it with your go to load and maybe use a ballistic program like Strelok to map holdover ranges . |
