I just got the SLR hand guard that I'm using on my Creedmoor. It is pretty slick and I am glad I got it. The last major piece (not including the optic) that I needed to complete the rifle.
Now to figure out a muzzle device. Not sure if I want a brake or a flash hider. Don't think there is any real requirement for a brake as I understand the Creedmoor is pretty tame. |

I went the SLR route myself. The 15" Solo to be exact, it's at the Cerakoater at the moment. I've not seen a handguard that was so light. Good choice, but I'm biased... I went the 15" route as well. It is pretty light. I can't wait to get it installed and get the remaining pieces to complete my rifle and get it out. What color are you going with on the Cerakote? |

Not being facetious here, but why would you contemplate a flash hider when a brake actually serves a purpose you could use (unless you're going to be heading into a combat zone with the rifle, I don't see the need for a FH). Although the CM is relatively "tame," a brake enhances that significantly. |

I like the JP Brakes. I had started a .308 build years ago and had purchased a JP handguard for it. Life, wife and kid took precedence and I never completed it and sold everything off. JP makes some nice stuff.
Another brake that seems interesting is the one from Killer Innovations. I have kicked the idea of purchasing one of them to try on my Grendel since they make a 6.5 threaded for what AA uses. Only reason I haven't is that the Vltor hider I have on my Grendel works just fine and the Grendel has mild recoil. Well, that and I can think of other things to spend the funds on. Maybe I will just have to break down and buy one to check them out. The Killer Innovation would fit the profile of my barrel nicely and I like how it vents. The JP would also fit (using a large profile) and it is known just to work. My comment of figuring out what to use is based off of I don't know what I want to go with. One day I will end up looking around and just purchase one of the items i find interesting because it will pop into my head. Besides, if my Grendel is any indication none of these build projects ever really seem to be done. |

The San Tan Tactical upper and lower were already done in tungsten, so I figure the handguard done the same would look nice. Everything else is black so it should look nice when complete. My plans at the moment is for a Griffin M4SD-II for the end. |

Brakes do serve a purpose, but can also be annoying. Either on he for me is more to protect the crown. It may even end up being a thread protector, but a brake or flash hider seem to be more finished to me. My original plan was to just a JP brake. You got that right!! I opted for the JP brakes on each of my JP rifles. I have a Big Chubby on my comp bolt rifle. Between the LRP-07 in .260 and that bolt rifle, also in .260, I say the JP brake makes the Chubby sound like a damn .22, but it works phenomenally well, best I've ever used. I was allowing a friend to shoot the LRP one afternoon, he was on a bench and I was standing behind him. He shot his first round and the gasses coming out of the brake knocked the hat right off of my head...scared the shit out of me!!! I've not experienced that with any other brakes. |

Well, in true ARFCOM fashion I couldn't decide which muzzle device I wanted. I bought a Griffin flash comp and a JP brake. Once I can get back to my house I will finally be able to assemble everything and get it out to the range. I will have to use my Steiner that I have on my Grendel as glass for right now until I figure out what scope I want to place on the Creedmoor. I haven't had brakes on any of my other rifles, so it should be interesting. With the 5.56/.223 or Grendel, I have never seen the need for one. Who knows, I may not like either device on/for this Creedmoor and switch them out for something else. http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae267/wile_coyote2/CompBrake_zpsfn1yb1yq.jpg You are awesome, you ACTUALLY got both ! ![]()
