Need help rebuilding my recce upper, as it stands I have a 16 inch Rainer barrel on a psa upper with a troy rail. While larue was running the sale on their barrels and triggers I bought one so now I have a 14.5 larue barrel I'm building around I know most will say keep both which I normally would but I have a couple of rifles and intend to take the Rainier barrel and troy rail and build a rifle for my step mom as she has asked how much to build an ar since she showed interest I decided I would hook her up.

As for handguards I intend to buy a nsr or urx since the barrel is 14.5 I will be pinning a surefire break and intend to buy a can. The optic on the rifle will be a strike eagle and sometimes a 2.5-10 might spend some Time on it as well kind of a mid range precision role. The real question at hand is will there be any type of difference in accuracy between a noveske gen 3 upper which I consider buying or another psa upper. Money is not the problem but if I can cut the price in half and achieve the same accuracy I'm fine with that however of there will be some type of accuracy advantage on going with the nicer upper than that is the path I will travel.

I doubt you'll notice any appreciable difference between 2 forged uppers, granted they're both in-spec. You could try truing the receiver face but even then I don't think it'll make a difference unless something's pretty wrong.

RECCE upper and precision upper seem to be opposite ends of the spectrum.

Either build a lightweight RECCE upper or build a SPR style precision upper. Use a chrome lined blaster barrel on the RECCE or a stainless steel match grade barrel on the SPR.

I don't know of any sources for lightweight match barrels.

Your accuracy is going to be determined by the quality of the bullets first. Match grade bullets group well even when fired from rack grade barrels.

FMJ bullets rarely shoot well even when fired from the best barrels.

Idk about that by defention recce stands for recon first off and second off most of them especially the original seal ones were the concept started all have stainless match grade barrel. Matter of fact lilja makes one they call their recce barrel which is supposed to be the same one fielded by the military. Also I reload and understand how to make an accurate load that is not really the question at hand I appreciate it though.

What about the Lilja Recon M4 barrel?  Match grade stainless, button rifled, hand lapped, Wylde chamber, I:8 twist, 17" counting barrel extension.  I just got mine in and installed today, but have not broken it in yet, but should be sub MOA capable.  It is a bit heavier profile, but not much.  36 ounces (2 lbs, 2 ounces). My upper is a Spikes Tactical M4 with a trued receiver face.  12" Daniel Defense free float rail.

If you don't want to mess with lapping the receiver face, the upper I see mentioned as being the most reliably precisely machined is Aero Precision.

Yea, I don't think most people consider RECCE's to be on the opposite end of the spectrum. an M4  with a T2 is on the opposite end of the spectrum. My Recceish rifle has a stainless steel light weight BA barrel that is pretty nice. The other upper I am building is using a 16" spikes LW barrel that I can't wait to shoot. There's no reason to think all 16" guns need to be lightweight chrome lined blasters. Plenty of options.

MS556, how is that Lilja barrel shooting?

As far as uppers go, BCM makes tight fitting, very in spec uppers. If you want to spend more, the VLTOR MUR is an option, and I like the looks. the SPR's were all built with Colt uppers I believe. I would pick one of those three.
