I have a bit of a dilemma that I can't figure out due to my lack of experience with several items. I just sold a SCAR 17S and some other stuff with the intention of getting a S&M PII. I currently have a Bushnell XRS on a 18" Predatobr. It just came back from Larue with the "match grade" barrel upgrade. The best group I've shot so far is right under 1/2" but I'm not the best yet and I've got some funky stuff going on with my eyes focusing as I look through the scope. Now that I've got the money to utilize I'm came up with several options. I wanted to get some feedback from folks with more experience with these items.

- My first plan was to get the S&B PMII and have the funds left over to get a Surefire SOCOM 762RC. I just got my 762SD back that I haven't had a chance to test yet and I have a Specwar 762 that should be approved soon. I'm not really sure the Surefire can would be worth the money so I could always use the left over to purchase more ammo. My question here is; is the PMII worth the cost compared to the XRS? How does it stack up to the USO ER-25? The PMII is about 1K more than the USO.

- The second option I thought about was to get a OBR and another XRS. I always wanted the OBR but I got such a deal on the tOBR that I couldn't pass it up. If I go this route I could get the OBR and the glass. Of course my thought here is the more the better right lol. I would like to give them a try side by side also. If they both shoot around the same then its just having to great rifles which is fine by me.

So to sum it up, would it be a better investment to upgrade my scope on the tOBR and hold off on the OBR? I know some of this is preference but I have no clue if the glass is that much better than the XRS and if there are is a significantly better performance with the OBR.

4K awesome? Is the difference between the USO and the S&B that significant?

depends on what you're doing with it.  watching bird plumage?  yeah get the nicer glass.  it won't help you shrink your groups though.

you probably will notice quite a bit of difference in the bushnell and S&B glass.  but is it worth $2300 more?  doubtful.    I'm pretty sure the guy that won the PRS last year shot a bushnell all year.

S&B has lost ground/users each of the last 2 years.

Bushnell & Vortex have both gained ground/users each of the last 2 years.

Per above, nothing wrong with S&B, but can you justify the very large difference in price, IMHO not for me and I will stick with my Vortex.

I actually know of some very serious competitive shooters who have recently sold off S&B scopes and replaced them with the Vortex Razor HD Gen II.

Food for thought,
M Richardson

Thank you for all the feedback. I found a USP ER25 for a steal yesterday so I went that route. I just couldn't justify the S&B cost. I was surprised that the DMR/ERS did so well in those tests compared to the XRS. That was great reading, thank you.

Once again, CaptRichardson is dead on.  IMHO, grab a GII Razor and forget about the S&B.  It appears they have become too proud for their pants.  Others are coming up behind them, making outstanding optics for much less (Kahles, Steiner, Vortex, Bushnell).

Rob01 is a mod on here and the Hide.  He got rid of his S&B's after he experienced the GII Razor.  IIRC, he said he sold all of his S&B's and has purchased all Razors.  In his opinion, the Razor gives up damn near nothing to the S&B and is substantially cheaper.

I own an XRS, it is on my LRP-07.  I like the scope, reticle, and locking turrets.  If I am missing targets, it's certainly not because the Bushnell is a shitty optic!

As far as S&B goes, it is going to be them, USO, Tangent Theta, Hensoldt and NF's Beast in that "elite" field of optics.  This is due to price alone, which we all know is not as accurate a gauge for quality as it is a name.

I love my PMII with H59 and have no regrets but I also bought it in 2012 before the price increases. I would recommend the SB not just on exceptional quality of the glass but also on the turrets and mechanical precision. That isn't to say that other scopes recommended in this thread aren't mechanically sound. The turrets adjust easily and have a very positive click. They are also very accurate. I also picked up a 4-16x42 with H37. If 25x isn't a necessity the 4-16 with it's 42mm objective would fit nicely on a tobr.  I have the PMII on a 20" OBR 762 and the 4-16 on a tobr. The 4-16 is also much cheaper than the PMII.

I'd consider keeping the tobr for now. I like my tobr because if I want to take it anywhere I can load it underneath a plane in a small bag much easier than my OBR 20'.

As for suppressors, I swear by Surefire. I picked up my 556 can in 2005 and the 762 in 2009. I don't have a socom series but both have far exceeded my expectations on my Larue rifles. Impact shift is minimal, they mount solid, and are light weight. I have shot a lot of rounds through them but never abused them by doing mag dump after mag dump. I even have TAB gear suppressor covers to limit the mirage. The best part is to me they feel part of the gun rather than an accessory.

Good luck with your decisions.
