I have a 700 AAC-sd. The factory crown is flush, as is the tread protector. This will be used on the range as well as in the field, so for that reason, I don't want to use any sort of brake or comp (noise concerns). Are there any thread protects that would offer a little more protection to the crown than the factory remington protector?

If that's the only option, ok, but I don't like the look of a FH on a bolt gun.

Do a google search and a bunch of different thread protectors come up. The Rem is 5/8-24 so just get one that is long enough to cover the muzzle. Another option is contacting a rifle smith and having him make you one that is long enough to fit your needs if you can't find one commercially.

How do you like the 700 AAC-SD? I was thinking about getting one.

I own one as well. Don't want to derail the thread, but in short? Great rifle to start with. Nice barrel length, barrel twist, etc. it's only short comings are the soft stock and the trigger. The trigger isn't horrible but, you can do better for relatively low cost.

If you plan on shooting suppressed its a great platform to save a few bucks.

It is what it is. Biggest complaint is trigger and stock. I had a chassis system I came into, so stock is gone. Trigger is probably my next upgrade. I personally don't like the finish, as the cycling action is a bit rougher than other finishes, but I will probably get my bolt fluted for Christmas and have it cerakoted which will solve that issue too.

Try an o-ring or rubber washer seated in the bottom of your thread protector. It should recess the crown the thickness of the o-ring/washer.

Might be an easy solution.

I suggest putting a recessed crown on it.  That way you'd have a better crown since some factory crowns are questionable and then you'd have good protection.  Thread protector are just that, protection for the threads.  My .02.
