So, I just got a REALLY good deal on a 700 long range with the B&C M40 stock. I don't like the stock- the pistol grip feels like a fence post in my hand and I just can't get comfy with it. I've been shooting a Tikka T3 Lite for years and the anorhexic grip on it works ok for me. I shot my buddy's RPR and it felt REALLY good; so, I was considering a chassis system. I was thinking about the MDT LSS or the XLR Industries Element as both seem to be a good mix of the function, versatility, and affordability that would cure what's ailing me. Now I've discovered the Magpul Hunter. Yes, its a stock, but it looks like it might give me that AR grip feel and some adjustability for MUCH less. My only concern about it is that it would feel like a cheap plastic stock- kinda like my T3. Anybody have any comprisons, positives, or negatives on the three? Thanks in advance!

When I picked up the Magpul stock at SHOT the first year they brought it out I wasn;t very impressed. Yes it will work but it wouldn;t be my first choice. I hate the skinny little forend on the LSS. Not enough to grab or throw up on something and have it be stable.

The XLR is a good choice. It's a solid chassis. McRee also makes some good chassis. Also the KRG X-Ray is a good option. Those would be my choices.

My first choice at the more reasonably priced level would be the the Xray.  It has a more stock like grip and is light, but doesn't feel cheap.  Stocks and Chassis come down to a lot of personal preference for function and feel.

I forgot to mention that it is a 7mm mag (long action) so the X Ray is out.

I like my AICS with viper skins giving it a nice pistol grip. Yeah it's heavy but it works well for 95% of what I need

I know it's not a full up chassis but the grip is VERY comfortable.  I have one on my Savage.  I lucked into what appeared to be a pricing accident a few months ago though and got mine for $425 from Euro Optic.  Now at $600 plus I'm not sure how likely I would have been to buy one.  Just wanted to throw it out there for you though.  They also have wood laminates too.

I had my 7mm mag Remington in an X-Ray.

That being said, it was very unbalanced and front heavy.

All I saw on the website for the x ray was short action. I'll dig some more....

they need to list below the stock that its SA/LA.   i would have assumed it was SA as welll

i have two of the SA KRG X-rays and love that its a complete drop in chassis.   no need to change your scope/ ring placement

Make sure to take a look at the XLR Element chassis. I love mine, and it's a great value.
