I have an old post 64 Winchester Model 70.  It's pretty much a typical fudd gun.  I'm toying with the thought of turning it into a "budget" precision rifle, but I'm pretty clueless as to the precision market.   I;m trying to determine if it would even be worth messing with as opposed to just buying a new gun, something along the lines of a Remington 700 SPS.  I know at a minimum I would need a new barrel, new trigger, and a new stock.

To start my questions are:

1. Who is a good source for new barrels for Winchester Model 70's.

2. How difficult is it to swap a barrel?

3. Who makes a good 2-stage trigger for the Model 70?

1 - Most barrels you find will be blanks. So just about any of the big name barrel brands can be used on a Winchester.

2 - You're going to have to send it to a gunsmith.

3 - No idea. I have never like 2 stage triggers much. Rifle Basix makes a trigger for the older M70s that has a screw to adjust sear engagement (unlike the factory). You will either need to file out the inside of your trigger guard or the edges of the trigger, but it ends up with a really good single stage trigger.
