From limited research, almost any side folding chassis that's worth a damn is almost the same price as a ruger precision rifle. Any setup is about 2k+ ayer just rifle and chassis.
I was hoping to get something in 300 win mag but should I just get an RPR in 6.5? |

It depends on if you need the reach of the 300WM or not. 6.5CM should be good for at least 1200yds.
You really don't "need" any of the folding chassis unless you have a specific use for it. The only reason my AIAT has one is because removing the bolt without it requires the removal of the cheek rest. The AICS chassis though don't require that as standard actions (Remington/Savage) are much shorter than the AI action. |

Longest range I have here is 820y and my 308 works fine at that distance so NEED is a very subjective matter here. The folding stock is mostly for transportation purposes to fit a longer barrel in the cases I currently own.
I don't own any bolt actions now and figure that if I'm going to own just one, it should be a good one. |

I think the OPs point is not to spend $1000 on just a chassis alone when the OP could get a RPR with the folding stock feature and is a complete rifle. |

EuroOptics Chassis kits
if I knew about these kits I would have gone this route originally |

He can't get the RPR in 300WM which he said he wanted. If he is fine with a 6.5CM then the RPR makes sense. Good find cruze5! I completely forgot about them offering those. If the OP wants the AT style chassis that is a great price. |

Mcrees and XLR are a couple other folding options that are less than $1k.
It all depends on what you want out of the rifle. The RPR is a deal for the features, but there's quite a few that have already replaced the barrels for better groups. If you figure an aftermarket barrel and maybe a handguard you're now closer to custom rifle money. The Tikka TSR-1 would be a good start for a factory chassis rifle. I've been strongly considering one myself. |

Looking at 6.5 creedmoor and there no factory remington in that caliber. Looking into barreled actions now. Accuracy systems Inc http://www.remington700rifle.com And Nwactionworks http://www.nwactionworks.com/remington-barreled-actions Any other recommendations? |

Barreled Action $1245 bolt fluting $85 Muzzle threading $125 Cerakote barreled action $145 So you're looking at $1600 for a custom barrel on a factory Remington action. I'd start looking at custom actions if I was going to spend that much. Shilen barreled action Bighorn Action $1250 CBI barrel |

Threading is extra, but just $75. Does the shilen DGR action fit the cadex? I notice is based on the stiller predator so it should... |
