Model 85196, Accusport exclusive. Has a 20" SS fluted threaded 5R barrel, stainless action and tactical bolt knob all Cerakoted black. Sits in an HS Precision stock.
There is almost zero information out there on these. I'm hoping it will make a decent deer gun that can be purposed for some long range fun occasionally. Anybody have any experience with them? I was also wondering about that barrel's compatibility with 150 gr. bullets. Not that that's what I have to shoot, but I have a bunch of Partitions on hand already... And they are a stone cold deer slaying bullet IMO. GB link, because there are no good photos out there. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=548192012 |

That twist wil work for anything up to 175gr, and maybe higher. Ive never tried anything over 175 myself. It's going to be a heavy bastard for hunting, but it'll make a nice gun for shooting at the range. I shot 185s out of my 12twist .I also shot 210lrbts, while they shot well the SG factor was only 1.3 so BC was lost. |

I have a very similar 5R that was a limited run. The only difference is mine was produced with a 24in barrel. Same stock, bolt knob, Cerakote, etc..
I topped mine with a Burris XCR II and have been nothing but satisfied with its accuracy and performance. Shoots Federal Match extremely well and is phenomenal with 42.5 grains IMR 4064, Lapua brass, Nosler Custom Competition 168gr bullets, and Winchester primers. As an added bonus the 5R rifling appears to help keep the barrel from copper fouling as badly or as quickly as my other rigs. In all honesty, it is quite likely my favorite precision rig for range trips, but it is a bit on the heavy side for hunting the mountains. With yours having a shorter barrel it may be just the ticket though since it'll be a bit lighter. Enjoy that fine new rifle! |

nice lookin gun man. i'm not sold that the later model Remington are as bad as most make them out to be I'm not either especially when you consider the number of them they have sold over the years and the fact that dissatisfied people are more vocal about it than those who are completely satisfied. |

My biggest gripe is the chamfered firing pin hole in the bolt. It craters every single primer you shoot. Luckily Gre-Tan Rifles will bush the firing pin hole for $90 or so. I've had them do two of mine. And the newest one I have (2011) had a terribly rough bore. It shot well after about 20 fouling shots. ![]() I ran Tubb's final finish bullets through it and it's better now, but not great. On par with what I would expect from a factory barrel. ETA: Those 5Rs are supposed to be awesome barrels. The one I have had the chance to play with shot really well and cleaned easily. I was impressed. |
