| Which brands of bolt action rifles should be avoided at all costs? |
|
It's not the brand it's the models within the brand that need to be avoided.
Having said that a budget is always useful when looking for a rifle so we can point you in the right direction. If you want to spend $600 there is no reason to suggest a $4000 Accuracy International. |

I'm thinking about this. I heard from my local store that they are able to get this same exact rifle in but with a different camo. Otherwise I plan on hitting up a gun show next weekend so I can narrow down my list. I am on a budget though. I just need an idea on what models and brands I should avoid and not bother to even consider.
I know this is considered low quality but like I said I'm on a budget. http://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/165266/22566/savage-axis-ii-223-heavy-barrel-kryptek-4-12x40 |

Something to consider. With the Demand for the ruger precision so high. There are people selling low mileage 700's and savages for their ruger buy. On another forum, there was a loaded 700 with optics, ammo and mags , went for just shy of $1150. Seller like others i have seen, had much more then that invested, Have you allocated $$ for a decent optic? |

Which brands of bolt action rifles should be avoided at all costs? You're in the "precision rife" forum so I'm going to suggest the tried and true Remington 700 as the beginners best action. Any custom clone of the Remington 700 is a step up. Anything less is a step down. I have a custom Winchester M70 that shoots great but there isn't any comparison when it comes to accessories and custom gunsmiths when compared to the Remington 700. Everybody and their brother works on 700 receivers if they are in the business. Visit WWW.ACCURATESHOOTER.COM (I posted it in caps so you could read it) for an in depth review of quality actions, barrels, gunsmiths, stocks and anything else related to precision shooting. www.accurateshooter.com "daily bulletin" has daily updates of the latest and greatest shooting news. I would save up until I could buy something worth having. The Savage AXIS is an economy rifle, not a precision rifle. It will serve you as a rough and tumble field rifle for hunting and won't cause any tears should you drop it in the mud. |

They're just not doing it in QC these days on their centerfire rifles. 40 years ago was a different story. Their other stuff has remained acceptable but their CF rifles kinda suck hard out of the box. And yes, I do own one. If you want to start in precision rifles, find a Savage or Remington heavy barrel and go from there. You won't need or want anything more or less for a long time. |
