My girlfriend got me a Boyd's thumbhole stock for my Savage B-mag for Christmas.  I've got it on, but the barrel touches the end of the stock on the left side.  I see two ways of fixing this.  1 - glass bed the first few inches of the barrel after the action.  Or 2 - inlet the end of the stock to clearance for the barrel.  My initial thought is to bed the first few inches.  This will have a better appearance since it won't thin the forend on the left side.  My concern is that this is manipulating the barrel to fit the stock and that may have an adverse effect as compared to fitting the stock to the barrel.  Thoughts?

Why not bed the whole action into the stock including under the chamber and then if there is still barrel touching open up the barrel channel? If the action isn't sitting right in the stock I wouldn't just worry about the barrel forward.

The way the action is mounts it has two pillars and they use a tapered button head bolt, so there's really no play in the action mounting.

And just for kicks here she is in the new stock.

Looks good.

If no play in the action area and you don;t think it will be an advantage to bed then I wouldn't be bedding in the barrel channel and adding a stress point that isn't there for the action. Just clean up the barrel channel.
