No experience with bolt action rifles, as I only own an AR and shotgun. Local gun store has a Remington 783 .308 for $380. Comes with a no-name 3-9 scope. Anyone have experiences with the 783 .308? I would like to begin to hunt with a family member, and this seems like a good deal.
First thread I've created too. |

Pass. Lots of reports of the .308 version not feeding well. Which I found out after I bought mine and it...wait for it...didn't feed off the right side of the mag. Sent it to the factory warranty station, which fixed it so that about 1/16" of the rim was pushed by the bolt.
Sold it and won't buy another. Interestingly, I didn't find as many reports of the long cartridges having this issue. |

I have no experience with that model, but I can suggest the savage axis, or the Ruger American if you want a budget gun. The American is the lowest I'd go. The Remingtons are disposable guns and the Savage is just barely something you can call a rifle. |

Yeah the main thing I like about the Ruger American is it has a detachable mag, something I wish my Remington 700 came with. |
