| I'm looking to buy a new scope and was looking at the vortex viper HS-T 6-24x50. And was wondering if anyone had anything good or bad to say about it our had any other suggestions for another scope around that price range. |
| It's more than enough glass for 1k. I just took my PA 4-14 FFP out for the first time this weekend to a meet. We shot from 300-1000 and I finished 7 out of 17. I'm actually really happy with this thing. You can't go wrong with the vortex though. A SWFA 3-15 would be worth looking at as well. I actually really like the SWFA mil-quad reticle. |

I like the HS-T, good scope for the money. The next step up I would consider is the Burris XTR II line. I really wish they had 10 mil turrets in them After that it starts getting pretty expensive. The Bushnell ERS and XRS are pretty nice. For just a little more you can get a Razor. I would really like a Razor |

Quoted: I hate to rain on the PST parade, but the Burris XTR2 is a much better scope. I sold my PSTs and replaced them with XTR2s because of this. I agree with you. I would spend a little extra and get an XTR2 over a FFP PST. On the budget end, I think the HS-T's are a good deal. |
| I want something good enough to compete with for a couple years or maybe less then get a good scope like a night force or us optics or something like that, but right now I don't need one that pricy just need something good for shooting 1000yds with out breaking the bank. |

http://precisionrifleblog.com/2014/04/22/high-end-long-range-rifle-scopes/ I would read this rifle scope comparison before you jump into a nightforce. I wouldn't want to stick too much money in a temporary optic. |

Quoted: The quality is better, the turrets are better, true zero stop, 34mm tube, better glass, etc. Burris has discount programs as well. Quoted: Quoted: What makes the xtr2 so much superior? Also vortex I'm lucky enough to qualify for the vortex military discount. The quality is better, the turrets are better, true zero stop, 34mm tube, better glass, etc. Burris has discount programs as well. I thought the Burris discount was only for Law Enforcement. |

Not sure thought I thought they did have both. |

Quoted: I see no mention of rifle or caliber. Without knowing this one cannot know what kind of scope is more appropriate. However between HS-T 4-16x44 and HS-T 6-24x50 I, personally, would go with HS-T 4-16x44 until I was into 338LM or Cheytac territory. IMO caliber is less of an issue than the type of shooting you want to do. If you want to shoot small targets then the extra magnification is nice. If your worried about weight and plan to carry it in the field for shooting larger targets less magnification is probably the best route. For me, I shoot a lot of groups and I generally prefer the extra magnification from the bench. My buddy has the HS-T 4-16x44 and I've got the HS 6-24x50. I'm glad I've got the 6-24x and he wishes he had bought the 6-24x version. On the upside, these are variable. There's not a huge difference between 4x and 6x, IMO the biggest issue is the weight penalty. |

Well I got a .308 sps tactical that I put a bell and Carlson a2 stock on. And for what it is she is real accurate. Sub moa out of the box, I don't know if I got lucky or what.
Shooting out to 600 would for sure be regular for me since I can go to my back yard for that, and 1000 if I got to my buddies house down the road. I may eventually try to do competition. |

I've been a big Vortex fan for the past few years. I have a PST 4-16x50 on my 6.8 and thought I wanted to go with a PST 6-24 on my latest .308 bolt rifle.
I spent a few weeks reading reviews and finally called SWFA to get their thoughts on the Vortex vs a few other scopes. Their recommendation was a Sightron Siii which had popped up in my research as having higher quality glass than the Vortex PST. I took a chance and bought it and have been very impressed so far. The glass is very clear and bright, my only gripe is no zero stop but not that big of a deal to me. |

At 1000 yards, you only need 10X power--really! At 1000 yards you only need a 32mm objective unless you shoot deep into twilight, At 1000 yards you will need at last 45 MoA of drop--with a 20 MoA base you can use a scope with as little as 25MoA elevation from center. So, the 6-24*50 is about twice as much of anything you need. Something more in the neighborhood of 3-10*40; 4-16*44 |
