| Looking at getting a .308 to shoot up to 800-1000 yards. will mostly be shot at 200-300 but will regularly be shot at 500. Obviously this is a huge difference in range so lets just say I want a gun that can shoot MOA at 500 yards with factory ammunition.. I'm a college kid and broke as hell. That being said i'm looking for the cheapest and best gun to get this done which means i can't afford to go semi at this point. I want to stick with a bolt action. Any suggestions? I really like the Ruger American but my understanding is that it can't shoot MOA? Savage Axis is nice but the triggers are less than stellar correct? I'm not picky but I want a trigger that pulls at a maximum of 4 pounds. What about the Mossberg patriot? any other suggestions. I could go up to 500 but like I said I want to go as cheap as possible. this is just going to be a fun gun I can shoot on the weekends, not going to be taking any game with it or doing any serious shooting. |

Hard to go wrong with a Savage 10 and a SWFA SS 10x scope. Add some Federal Gold Medal Match 168 and you're good to go for 1000 yards. Buy or borrow a chronograph and measure your muzzle velocity. From there, go to JBM ballistics.com and use their software to predict your long range trajectory. |

Well I'm in that same situation as you and I went with the Remington 700 sps tactical and put a bell and Carlson stock on it. She is a real accurate. I just shot a 1.5" at 200 yards today.
The only other guns I could recommend would be the Remington 700 sps varmint with a bell and Carlson stock. Or a howa axiom (1500 action) |
| Okay so I have since held the 10t and I really like it.. now here is my question.. I want DBM and I want to be able to use magazines that are available so I want to convert it to shoot AI magazines.. I noticed CDI makes a bottom metal for the savage 10 do you know if it will fit the 10t? |

What he said...if you have a Dicks Sporting good near you, they have the Remington 700, ADL, camo stock, and heavy 26" barrel for $449.00 right now. I have one in 243, I only replaced the trigger with a Rifle Basix trigger, and I routinely knock down 2" x 2" steel plates off of a railroad track at 300 yards with boring regularity. I put a Vortex Viper scope on it that I got from camera land for $299.00. It has the BDC reticle.
Happy Trails! |
