I'm planning to rebarrel my 5R 300wm with a Bartlein in the same caliber. What I am curious to find out is the weights that I am going to be getting with the new barrel, now by no means is this a light weight rifle, Steiner 5-25, KRG chassis, AAC MK 13 can are either in hand or inbound. I'm looking at either 26 or 28 inch barrels to get everything I possibly can out of the round and now I just need to find a contour I like. SO if you have a weight to compare to or better yet a picture to look at the contour you used it would be great. Or just post your 300WM rifles and experiences. |
| Go with a 10 twist. MAYBE a 9.5 if you wanted but I wouldn't go under that. 10 will shoot up to 240 SMKs from my experience but you will probably find you will end up in the 208/210 range when you balance velocity able to be pushed and BC to have a flatter shooting round that is good in the wind. You can shoot the heavier bullets in the 300WM, as some people shoot the 208s in a .308, but for me the velocity isn't there. The 208 AMAX shot great out of mine and I could get them close to 3000fps. With the BC of .647 they do great at long range. |

Found a 1-10 Heavy varmint Bartlein on Bugholes. told my smith to order it. Posted up the old manners chassis and will probably post the factory 5R barrel to recoup a little of the funds. Is a new recoil lug necessary? I'll probably ask that he pin the lug to the receiver after he trues it up and all. |
