I built a nice 20" barrel SPR type setup several years ago that I rarely if ever use. I'm thinking about selling it and going with a Mossberg MVP thunder ranch model in 5.56. This will probably be topped with a leopold TS-30 scope (the original MK12 SPR scope) and have a M16 bird cage FH added to accomodate my Gemtech HALO suppressor. If it performed well, I WOULD use it for plinking and critters. I would be primarily firing Hornady 75 gr BTHP match, black hills MK 262, (good results with both rounds from 16" 1:9, 20" 1:9, 16" 1:8, and 14.5" 1:7 AR's) and possibly some 55 grain depending on how the gun likes it. I would love to hear from anyone that has experiences good or bad with the MVP, along with the rounds used, group sizes, optics used, etc. I mostly shoot precision 700's in 308 or a LT OBR 7.62, so I'm aware of the limitations of a 5.56. I'm just looking for something that's compact, light, reasonably accurate, 5.56, and suppressor friendly.

It's a great platform as long as you plan to run it as is. Dont expect many upgrade paths, or any at all really. I had the 24" varmint model and was within roughly 1/2 MOA with Fiocchi 50gr V-Max.

I have a thunder ranch  5.56 . It is a nice little rifle and should work great for what you stated needs are . I use mine for when I am hiking my property mainly looking for predators and varmints or eliminating ground hogs from my neighbors bean field . I have a sightron SIH - tac 3x9 on mine  I put it on the rifle for a place holder but havent made my mind up yet . 53 grain hornady v-max will shoot around .75 -.9 moa at 100 yds , m855 runs around 1.5 moa , barnes 62 grain tsx has been pretty consistant at 1moa and barnes 70 grain tsx is terrible about 2 moa but I really havent worked up a load I had these for shooting out of my 1/7 twist 6940. I did get 2 boxes of hornady super performance match 75 grain bullets but havent made it to the range to try them out yet . I use my yhm 7.62 phantom for suppressed shooting and its a pig I get a conssistant point of impact change of 1.5 moa down and 1 moa left . a lighter can may not be as bad .
the rifle is not as smooth as a remington action but will start to get better with use . I have had good luck with lancer 10 and 20 round magazines , 30 rounders are to long for practical use but you will have to try one , just because .
the trigger is no timney but really not to bad when you adjust it . I cant think of anything else but you can go to mossberg mvp forums and get some more info .

heres mine

Ive had a 204r version for a while now and its been great very accurate. Works with all mags ive put in it.  It is a 24" varmint style.

MDT also makes the LSS chassis for it.

I have the MVP Predator with the 1:9 twist and a Cabelas 3-9x scope.  For the price paid, it is a nice little low cost setup.

It is sub MOA with Hornady 68 BTHP and Barnes 69 Match Burners but I have yet to get a decent group with Hornady 75 BTHP and Sierra 77 SMK.  Others say they have had success with the 75's but it may be that they are single feeding and not loading to mag length.

The barrel is thin and heats up fast so a five shot group typically throws one cold bore about 1/2" from the next four which cloverleaf nicely.

Two groups with 69 Barnes Match Burners and RL15.  I pulled one of the shots slightly right on the top one.

P.S.  Here's a 100 yard group I fired from a new, right out of the box, MVP 20" rifle.  This is actually the very first group this gun fired out of the box.

Any 6.5 Grendel barrels?  What the world really needs is 6.5 Grendel bolt actions.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I think I'm going to go this route and top it off with a leupold MRT.

When you do buy it, and you replace the stock, sell the stock to me.
