I came home and switched rings out from mediums to tall rings and now it feels more comfortable and is easier to get behind the scope. |

Attached File Been having issues with that wind for the last couple weeks as well. I changed a few things on my CZ and have been shooting SK Standard Plus getting good results. |

Very nice sir, I’ve also been using the standard plus to good results. Much cheaper than lapua and very close in performance. Pic thread Attached File |

I’m just getting in to this with the Savage Mark II and an MDT ORYX chassis. I already had the optic and bipod. I found some aftermarket magazines from Csspecs I’m going to give a try. I haven’t shot it yet so I don’t know the results. Attached File |

I’ve been eyeballing them but not sure it’s worth it. |

I put this budget build together last year on my old 80s 10-22 to see if I wanted to get into precision .22. It's good enough that I figured out quick that bulk and domestic ammo pretty much sucks. Some flavors of Eley work well. When the weather improves I really need to get out and shoot it more. Attached File Attached File |
Nobody is coming. It's up to you.

This is a new genre of shooting for me, and I tend to do things cheaply, as I'm a poor and have other obligations. Springfield 2020 rimfire, secondhand Vortex scope, cheap bipod. Once I got it dialed in, I shot a few groups for size at 50 yards. All were under an inch. The best was a half inch. Ammo was CCI sv target. One group was with HV bulk ammo, since I had that on hand for my semis. Attached File Attached File |
Of all men’s miseries the bitterest is this: to know so much and to have control over nothing.

I would suggest you guys test ammo at 50 and at 100. Theres some eyebrow raising differences in how some ammo performs at 50 yards vs how it performs at 100. It does not scale as one would expect....ie...That "under 1/2 group" of CCI at 50 is going to be a lot closer to "under 2" at 100 than it will be "a clean 1" group" at 100 yards. It gets even worse if you do 10 shot groups. Thats not to say CCI SV is bad ammo. I have an absolute shitload of it and I like it....But I'll never use it in a offical scored shoot. |

Yep! 100% One of the "tricks" about shooting at 100 yards (or longer) is the effect of wind on your group size. At 100 yards, a 3 mph change in wind speed causes a 0.6" lateral deflection. I picked 3 mph because that is about the smallest change I can detect. That 1/2" group at 50 becomes a 1" group at 100 plus another 1/2" for a missed shift in the wind, putting you at 1 1/2" laterally. Add in some vertical dispersion due to shooter plus increased dispersion due to ammo issues and you could easily be at 2" overall. I have to say, errors don't add linearly but let's leave that out of this discussion. Sometimes, only sometimes, spending more money on better ammo helps your long range scores/groups. A larger number of rounds almost always leads to larger groups, too. I guess my post is all about what you should expect. Often, setting expectations is as important as the shooting. I'll shut up now. |

All of us. This is more focused on centerfire but a lot of it applies to rimfire as well The need for larger sample sizes is why I am always suggesting posters do an overlay of their groups. For example, we are shown a target with several bullseyes on it, each with 5 shots. Each group looks small. The thing is, they are 5 shot groups, each with the same aiming point relative to its bullseye but they are not at the same location on their respective targets. When overlayed, they do not present as small a group as the author would like. |

Scope is a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 with FFP EBR-2C MOA "tree" reticle and MOA turrets. Glass is not top tier, but quite acceptable for .22LR distances. Ubiquitous Harris S-BRM 6-9" bipod with notched legs. I usually use a Protektor leather rabbit ear rear bag and a modified Caldwell Rock BR with upgraded precision Japanese ball bearing set, when shooting from a bench. Front bag held in the rest is a U-shaped low Protektor bag that fits the stock profile. Both bags are filled with lead birdshot. Pretty stable for a sporter rifle. https://i.postimg.cc/mkCynFN5/4FE0359B-F63D-443B-B343-58AEB8844BD4.jpg |
