I have a bull barreled .223, that I plan on cutting and threading.  Is there any reason not to thread it to the 5/8x24 pattern?

The only reasons I can think of would be dependent on the muzzle device you plan to attach and the outside diameter of the barrel at the muzzle.

For example, if you happened to only have a 5.56 thread on silencer (Or a specific muzzle brake or flash hider or something)  that was 1/2x28, you would end up needing an adapter, so the heavier threads wouldn't really do you much good. Another concern might be the efficiency of the particular device. A 308 flash hider, muzzle brake, silencer, etc. would most likely be needed for the 5/8" thread pitch and that might work as well as the 1/2" equivalent meant for your particular caliber.

For the OD of the barrel, you would need enough size to have a proper shoulder. That should not be a problem with a bull barrel, however.

Thank, all the rifle cans I waiting on are 7.62, so I thought it would make sense to take advantage of the larger thread pattern.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense for you.

You got my vote for the 5/8 dia.

I have .30 cal suppressors that I cant easily use on my 5.56 carbines.
