Hey all!
I am trying to work up some 308 subsonics for hog hunting with a suppressor. Can anyone suggest bullet weights and powder? My rifle is a 20 inch 1/10 twist. My friend's rifle is an 18 inch 1/10 twist also (I think, waiting on confirmation of his twist). We want an expanding hunting type bullet that will work well at subsonic velocities. My thought is 200 grains and higher bullets. I have been told to look for Trail Boss powder. Any other good ones? Thank you! |

trailboss: with hornady 180 grn soft points 20" Remington aac sd 1:10 / Silencerco Specwar 308. 60 degrees, 5400 asl
10.0 averaged 940 fps stupid quiet 10.2 averaged 1000 still stupid quiet 10.3 averaged 1085 with an occasional sonic cracks 18" drop at 100 from my 175 smk zero no true expanders, recovered from the dirt pile most tips sheared off down to the canular |

Have you tried any heavier bullets? I also have a 1/10 twist 20 inch barrel. |
| When I started playing with them, the 180 hornady were all that was available in a heavy, reasonable cost, plinker bullet locally. Im starting to look for some others for something different to play with. I probly should start looking online for some other alternatives. At those speeds I may even go to cast lead. |

Hogdon shows this TG data, i'm using I use 8 gr titegroup with a 168 hornady BTHP in my 1:12 LTR Another shooter with his 1"10 700 is running 7.8 gr TG using a 175 match bullet. He felt there was the occassional sonic round using 8gr and 175's than 7.8gr While this is a nice sub section of the precision forums. You get more input from this section, for reloading specifically. http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_6/42_Reloading.html |

I am in the same ballpark here. I use 9.8 gr trailboss under 180GR round nose. ear hole shots drop DRT. |

Was more concerned with having round holes in target than anything. and checking some velocities change with weather. |

Other than the pricey bullets designed to mushroom at subsonic velocity I'd never seen rounds recovered from an animal or gel that looked so torn up after reaching the target at subsonic velocities. |

A buddy and I have been kicking around developing a light bullet sub load with the 110-125gr Sierra GameKings and Trail Boss. Why? For Science. try hornady XTPs 100 gr and 90 gr. they won't feed in a AR put they are great in a single shot/ bolt action and work great on varmints. |

Yes, in dirt and clay the results are completely different then in flesh, water, gel or wetpack. Still looks like some good group potential. |
