Hello everyone I am trying to figure out what to trim my brass to so any help you guys have on this would be great.

here is some info

cal 308

case to ojive 2.203

fired brass is ranging from 2.010 to 2.023 (all untrimmed)

SAAM max length is 2.015, and recommended trim length is 2.005

Once you size them, they'll 'grow' in length as much as 0.010
So yeah, those will likely all need trimming

Ok i unstand that but would leaveing the neck "long" hurt anything since i have the room for it and as get up to the lands ?

The risk is a dangerous (potentially catastrophic) overpressure discharge.
I keep my sized brass to at least 0.020 shorter than the chamber dimension
Example; you measured 2.039... I personally wouldn't run the brass if it were 2.019 or longer.  Then it would be time to trim

The problem comes in the method of trimming. Do you trim based on case overall length like with a lathe style trimmer or based off the shoulder like a Giraud trimmer?

If you trim with a lathe trimmer(  or any type that indexes off the case head )and all of your case headspace lengths are not identical you could be putting your case mouth deeper into the chamber. Your shoulder to case mouth distance will vary.

When trimming with a trimmer that indexes off the shoulder, your shoulder to case mouth should all be very close to perfect(if your setup and method is good). The case mouths should extend into the chamber all the same amount.

I check base to shoulder of every case, and ensure no more than +/-.001 variance. Then trim and make sure of every single case length is .010" under max chamber length. If you are not going to take this kind of care or use a lathe style trimmer you better leave much more room for error.

Case length has absolutely *nothing* to do with the overall length of the cartridge.

Case length only affects whether the cartridge will fit/chamber and how much of the neck is holding the bullet.
