Last season was rough for me. I didn't get any bucks on camera that I wanted, so that kind of bummed me out. I was hopeful that something big would show up during the rut, but none did. I did pass up a decent 10-pointer on the second day of bow season (October 2), and that turned out to be the biggest buck I saw all year. The few does I saw during bow season were 40+ yards out. Firearms season opened and I didn't want to shoot a doe then, and was surrounded by them. I ended up shooting one doe with my muzzleloader and that was the extent of it.
I went from killing 5 does and a good buck in 2011 (all with a bow) to killing one doe with a muzzleloader in 2012. I've got a few good bucks on cam this year (one that I really want) -- and that's just on the one farm I have cameras on. I'm hopeful that the other properties may hold a good buck as well. |
It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.
