So Sunday at 0730 Mr. Bucky decides to stroll past my ladder stand at a mere 25 yards.
Caught me off guard - cant draw yet. He passes a large tree, I get my hand in the wrist strap and get the bow vertical. I know the trail, look forward and pick my opening. I silently draw my beautiful new Mathews Z7X. He enters the opening at 23 yards. 20 yard pin center chest. Anchor point solid, string to tip of nose. Tenderloins for dinner I think as I press the release. "PER-CRACK" as I watch my new spitfite maxx 3 blade mechanical drill the extreme left side of a sugar maple. Bucky lives by a mere 1/2 inch. Upon closer inspection I see a damn beech twig dangling straight down in the opening. Never saw it in the sights.......but my arrow seemed to hone in on it. Ohh the woes of bowhunting. I cant wait to load up the slug gun or uncase the Ruger M77 in 30-06. |
We should start an "alternate kill" photo thread. I could add the pine tree I killed the night before I shot my buck
Tough break man, but at least you got to let an arrow go......that's more than many can say. Focus on what's going well for you and try not to slip into a rut, it just makes you more frustrated and it's down hill from there. Trust me on that one. I remember in 1999 I missed 7 deer in a row. The more I missed, the madder I got, the madder I got, the worse I shot. |

I love the finess of bowhunting, but hate that it is a fickle beast.... I too cant wait for shotgun, I could have killed EVERY deer I saw this year during bow with my slug gun... light brush aint much for a sabot slug AMEN! Bounced an arrow off the back of one because of misjudged yardage.... |
