I know there a probably a dozen of these out here but i just have to ask.

I've been using the same bow for about 14 years now  Hoyt Rebel XT, unfortunately i've lost faith in it after running into multiple issues in the last year.  I've come to the conclusion it's time to update and upgrade.  By the time I'm ready to buy, my budget should be in the neighborhood of $1000 after setup and tuning.

What brands should I look into, stay away from as far as bows?  What kind of general tips can you guys give while shopping for a bow?  I've never shopped for a bow before, I received the Hoyt as a birthday present for my 11th birthday and it's all a bit overwhelming at this point.

Where in WI are you?  There's a great shop in Kenosha (Hysell Archery) right off i-94 and HWY-142 (I think).  They could easily set you up in your price range.  The last couple of bows I've gotten, I've had them set them up and they are very good at what they do.

I was just in the same boat as you and spent a month going to different shops and shotting different bows.  I shot tons of bows from Hoyt, Matthews, PSE, Elite, Bear and Bowtech.

I thought people were crazy when they said to try as many as you can and you will just KNOW.  But after driving 90 miles to try a Bowtech I shot the Insanity CPX and BAM that was it.  I was sold.

Total package (bow, sight, release, rest, case, quiver and a dozen arrows) was a little more than what I wanted to spend but man it is worth every penny.

i have to say I am really impressed with my Insanity.  Haven't been able to get out shooting as much as I'd like but each time I shoot it I get more excited for hunting season this year.

I was looking at an Insanity and then I shot a 2013 Elite Hunter.  Hands down, it was the best draw cycle I have ever experienced.  I picked up a used 2012 Elite Answer (so I could spend more on goodies) and have been impressed with it so far.  The Bowtech Assassin and Hoyt Charger were both on my radar for purchase too.  There are so many great options right now.  I recommend finding a bow at a local pro-shop though.  I had to make repeated trips to a dealer 30 minutes away because they had trouble setting my bow up.
