I'm looking for a budget scope that I can use for 3 Gun as well as some range/hunting. I've narrowed the list down to either the Nikon P223 or the Vortex Crossfire II. Both are 3-9x40.
Any opinions either way? Something else I should be looking at? I'm intrigued by the Weaver Tactical Grand Slam at Midway USA but not sure I can justify the extra $100 Thx -K2 |

Assuming you are contemplating Tactical Scope division, you really want something that goes down to 1x... IMHO a 3-9x scope is too much for all but Open division There are several options, but you need to spell out what "budget" means to you. Don't forget to make provision in your budget for a reasonable quality scope mount.
My recommendation would be the Weaver V3 1-3x, which is only $160. Magnification is adequate for 3-Gun competition, it is compact and light weight, and the glass is outstanding for the price. Made in Japan, not China. My son has been running one for several years and it has never let him down. |

At the moment I am practising with a Sightmark 1x6x24-30mm and I know it is a cheeepy but remember I am new and feeling my way around (literally). I like the scope even though my eyes are pretty bad now and trying to get the Cola bottle lenses on my glasses to work with everything is sometimes a challenge! You can find this one for all day long for under $500 with rings BUT I did elect to go with a cheap off brand cantilever to give me a bit more relief and rail contact. If I ever do manage a long range gun (AR10) I would look for a bit more magnification there.
One guy at the match I attended was running something similar to mine and said he liked his. He had found something in the fishing isle of a sporting goods store adapt his mag ring to a fast throw and now I want to try the same thing. He said he could not find anyone actually making the speed dials for the Sightmark. I think his invention was actually made to tie something to a fishing pole handle?? |

This doesn't look like a bad deal if your on a budget. It's 1x6. |
