So I've got the bug to get a 2011 model pistol. I know about STI and of course Paraordnance. Who else makes them? As far as STI, they have a lot of models, which one for tactical optics division? |

If you have your heart set on a wide body plastic frame 1911 (STI / SVI) and want to go close to "off the self" then I would check out
Dawson Precision (tuned model) or better yet Brazos Custom for one of Bob's tuned models. 5" or 6" completely personal preference. Lightened slide on the 6" to equal the weight of the 5" is a good idea. If a custom built gun is more to your liking....you have lots of smith's to choose from! What are you shooting now??? Both Brazos and Dawson take stock STI 2011 pistols and give them a good looking over..tune the extractor, clean up the trigger etc. They will fit a front sight to your liking. You may want to go with tuned magazines too. But...but if you don't HAVE to have a 2011 I would recommend a GLOCK G34 or G35. If you can shoot one well (many 3 gunners do) you'll never have to worry about pistol abandonment. When you put the gun down it IS ON SAFE. This, coupled with the fact that if you just shoot it and don't "F" with it it'll run and run, putting all your shots where you call them. Best of luck no matter your decision. Patrick |

It came out of Kimbers custom shop in the late '90s when they were producing really good pistols. I shoot it really well. For bigger matches that have a lot of pistol shots and high capacity is important, I have a Novak customized Browning Hi Power. I shot it at the BRM3G this year and got a lot of comments about being brave shooting a Hi Power. After I figured out it was shooting a little left, I did pretty well with it. The only polymer gun I own is a Walther PPS. |

I agree with Patrick. G34/35 is ideal for 3 gun, especially when it comes to abandonment. That and every time you do a reload, you're not dropping $150 on the ground... If you have your heart set on a 2011, the one's he suggested are great. I've been eying an Edge or an upgraded Edge from Brazzos or Dawson. |

Contact me over at Predator Tactical. My next 3-Gun pistol will be a 5" 2011 chambered in 9mm or 38 Super (albeit from . More capacity than 40 and get a familiar platform. It'll double as a steel challenge gun as well.

Even as a steel frame single stack shooter, I'll second Patrick's suggestion of the G34/35. I am not a great glock fan, but as a tool for 3 gun they are hard to beat. Spend $550 on a new one, and the $1500 you save on a custom 2011 can be spent on ammo. You will need new sights on it, but polishing the stock trigger components make it usable.
If the 2011 is the gun for you, like Rich said- the options are limitless. |

2011 recommendation??
That's easy. Triangle Shooting Sports Fat Free Long Slide. http://www.triangleshootingsports.com/ IF you are concerned with USPSA and Limited Division, I would get a .40. IF you are more concerned about Outlaw 3 gun, I would get a 9X19 or .38 Super. IF you want to shoot out of a Safariland 6004 or other such tactical holster, you will need a 5 in barrel, not a long slide. BUT I will take the long slide any day. True, Glocks are more easy to abandon ......... in so many ways. |

Caspian also makes a polymer hi cap frame you can use as a platform.... but it sounds as though you arent really looking to 'build' something.
Side note: If you ever do decide to start a 2011 build, Brazos (mentioned above) has the best deals on Frame kits and STI parts in general. Great folks too |
