I have a question about whether or not its legal to have a 2011s grip safety pinned for matches?  Does 3GN or any other outlaw matches allow the grip safety to be pinned?  I am talking with a gun smith to have a 2011 built and he asked me if I wanted the grip safety pinned and was unsure of the rules behind what is allowed.  It sounds like it is legal for USPSA as he does it for those guns but I don't know what is required for 3 gun.

Any help is appreciated.

I've never shot a 1911 style gun with a working grip safety.  My strong hand grip is too weak to activate it.

it's legal in 3gun, you do have the thumb safety and that has to be functional, but I've been thinking about getting my 2011 Edge GS pinned. I knock the thumb safety on sometimes if I'm not careful and I change my grip to use the thumb safety as a rest for my thumb which looses my grip on the back strap and allows the grip safety to not fully engage. Was fun last weekend in the middle of a stage, with cold hands, couldn't feel the anything and was knocking the thumb safety on and changing grip between targets to compensate for the thumb safety and the grip safety would disengage and gun no go boom boom, lol. made that stage take longer than wanted and screws up your thought process

Legal at every match I have shot. However, rather than go to the trouble of pinning it, just have the smith grind back the internals of the grip safety so it will never block the trigger.

Thanks for the replies, that is what I was looking for.  I will have him pin it when he builds up the gun as he offered rather than grind the internals to not activate it.  I like the idea of have the grip safety flush with the main spring housing and fixed.

Thanks again.
